WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Reporting to the CEO, the Financial Controller will be responsible for managing the overall financial operations of BC Biocarbon Ltd., providing timely and accurate information to management, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparing financial reports. The Financial Controller is responsible for directing and managing the company’s accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures as well as the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements. The Financial Controller also maintains the company’s accounting systems and implements changes as required.


Requirements and responsibilities:

  • Preparing timely and accurate financial statements including analysis, budgeting and forecasting
  • Managing the company’s accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and internal control initiatives and procedures
  • Overseeing/assisting in the daily accounting and finance activities for the organization including but not limited to posting journal entries, invoices, cheque runs, account reconciliations, capital asset analysis, job costing, and working capital management
  • Acting as liaison for the external auditors coordinating all aspects of the quarterly statements and year-end audited results including client prepared audit schedules and fulfilling auditor requests
  • Creating, monitoring, and maintaining the company’s capital table including stock options and grants
  • Coordinating Order to Cash transactions, including:
    • preparation of customers quotes
    • processing credit applications and new customer set up
    • processing sales based on customer purchase orders
    • fulfilling sales including product shipping arrangements and preparing customs documents for cross border clearance
    • managing customer billing and cash receipts
    • managing AR aging and allowance for doubtful accounts
    • responding to requests for information from Company website
  • Close accounting periods, prepare account reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Preparing reports for management, investors and Board of Directors
  • Preparing and updating financial models and proforma financials
  • Preparing information for corporate tax returns
  • Precessing bi-weekly payroll, related remittances and payroll year end filings and reconciliations
  • Preparing commodity tax filings (including GST, SK PST, BC PST)
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Desired experience/background:

  • An accounting designation (CA. CPA)
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of accounting principles (comfortable with ASPE, US GAAP and IFRS)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, problem solving, and organizational skills are essential
  • Knowledge of and experience with SK and BC PST requirements
  • Advanced excel skills and ability to develop and work with financial models
  • Analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Comfortable working in a multi-currency environment

This position requires a solid understanding of operational and financial accounting principles. Salary for this role will be commensurate with the selected candidates experience and qualifications.
