About the job

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  2. Follows the system of play to be used as affirmed by the Head Coach.
  3. Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season, in concert with the Head Coach and Activities Director.
  4. Works closely with the Head Coach in matters pertaining to scheduling and finance.
  5. Provides supervision for athletes in the dressing room and during practice, as well as to and from home on away games.
  6. Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, etc.     
  7. Promotes good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship and desirable pupil/teacher relationships.
  8. Oversees at  all times that students are present the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted.
  9. Follows established performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.
  10. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  11. Recommends to the Head Coach the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms, as appropriate.
  12. Responsible for the care of equipment, supplies and physical properties of the sport.
  13. Submits an inventory for the sport immediately following the close of the season. 
  14. Requires submission of athlete turn-out forms signed by the Activities Director prior to issuing equipment for the sport.
  15. Responsible for securing the home facility after a home or away game contest if the custodians are not available.
  16. Excludes athletes from practice or game if they have been truant or received an unexcused absence that day.
  17. Turns in the following to the Activities Director: a) a roster with all necessary personal data at least one week before the first game, b) a list of award winners immediately following the season, c) a list of transfer students so that state certification can promptly be accomplished, d) a list of season scores and any outstanding items of the season.
  18. Prepares athletic team roster two days prior to team's being excused from school and turns it in to the Activities Director.
  19. Provides the manager with a list of all duties he/she is to perform on practice days and days of games.
  20. Attends all organizational meetings as required by the Activities Director

 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

 

  1. Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies of the district, athletic conferences, and O.S.A.A. 
  2. Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  3. Ability to work with disgruntled adults and students
  4. Ability to work with frequent interruptions
  5. CPR/First Aid Certificate required
  6. Valid Oregon driver license
  7. ASEP Certified
  8. Clearance of a criminal background check and fingerprinting
