Tax Manager

About the job

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns for small businesses, individuals, trusts and estates.
  • Conduct comprehensive tax research and stay updated on tax laws and regulations across multiple states.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize tax obligations and ensure compliance with tax laws.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients on tax-related issues, including estate planning and small business tax strategies.
  • Manage and coordinate tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, providing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and professional.
  • Experience with financial accounting and reporting, audits, tax planning and strategy development.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, delegating when appropriate.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • At least 7 to 10 years of experience in tax management; a focus on small businesses and individuals preferred.
  • Extensive experience in conducting tax research across multiple states.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
