About the job

The Department of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) invites applications for one instructor position in statistics and one lecturer position in statistics, starting in Fall 2026. About CWRU: Case Western Reserve University is located in the University Circle cultural district of Cleveland, Ohio, home of the nationally top-ranked Cleveland Clinic, internationally famous Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Art. Within a five-mile radius of CWRU are the nation’s second-largest theater district, several professional sports teams, and a wide range of musical, artistic, and culinary venues, recreational opportunities, and numerous diverse communities in which to live. Qualifications, Roles, and Responsibilities for the Instructor position: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Statistics or a related field by the time of appointment, with preference given to those with demonstrated teaching experience. The standard teaching load for this position is two courses per semester, typically ranging from introductory to advanced undergraduate courses, with occasional graduate-level instruction. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to academic advising and mentoring of undergraduate students, as well as to coordinate and mentor lecturers, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students teaching introductory courses. In addition, the instructor will be expected to support the department and university through service activities. The instructor position is a non-tenure-track but full-time faculty appointment, comparable to a teaching-track assistant professor at other institutions. Qualifications, Roles, and Responsibilities for the Lecturer position: Candidates must hold at least a master’s degree in Statistics or a related field, with preference given to applicants who hold a doctoral degree and have demonstrated teaching experience. The standard teaching load is three courses per semester, typically ranging from introductory to advanced undergraduate levels. The lecturer position is renewable, contingent on satisfactory performance and the department’s needs. Application Instructions (both positions): Candidates should submit: (1) a letter of application specifying the position(s) applied for (instructor and/or lecturer), (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) transcripts of graduate degrees, (4) a statement of teaching and mentoring philosophy and experience, and (5) three letters of recommendation to be submitted directly by the writers, at least two of which should address teaching and mentoring. All references should be dated and within the last calendar year. Submission of teaching evaluation records is optional, and they may be included in the teaching statement. All application materials should be submitted electronically through the following Interfolio https://apply.interfolio.com/174907. Application timeline and correspondence: Review of applications will begin on December 09, 2025, and continue until all positions are filled. General correspondence about these positions should be sent to Anirban Mondal, Search Committee Chair, at anirban.mondal@case.edu.
