Job Description
As a Senior Software Engineer of the API team, you are responsible for leading Developers in designing, implementing and delivering software solutions that helps drive Nearmap's business objectives in a meaningful way to solve real-world problems for our users. You will work closely with the Product team to analyze and design software solutions and help to improve the competency of the development team by championing best practices, and assisting and coaching individuals to maximise their potential.
You’ll be contributing to a platform that processes petabytes of aerial imagery, powers advanced AI models, and delivers real-time geospatial insights to customers around the world. From data ingestion and processing to intelligent delivery through APIs and customer-facing applications, our systems push the boundaries of performance, scale, and innovation.
This is a rare opportunity to help shape quality practices across an end-to-end platform spanning high-resolution imagery, AI-driven insights, and scalable data delivery systems while establishing API projects in our new Warsaw engineering hub. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the reliability of systems that are transforming how industries make critical decisions at scale.

Qualifications
- Strong expertise in backend technologies including Go and/or C#.
- Deep understanding of API design, cloud-native architectures (such as microservices, containers, events) preferably on AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, and observability tooling.
- Experience with distributed storage or content delivery.
- Proven experience leading backend engineering teams delivering scalable, production-grade APIs and platform services.
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining distributed systems and data-access platforms in a cloud environment.
- Empathetic and inclusive leader with strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Proactive, pragmatic, and committed to high standards of technical excellence.
- Comfortable working across time zones and distributed teams.
- Comfortable making well-informed trade-offs between product delivery timelines, requirements and technical constraints
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a comprehensive understanding of backend development principles, software architecture, and design patterns
You will:
- Champion the evolution of Nearmap’s geospatial data platform, including distributed imagery storage, AI data pipelines, and content delivery optimisation.
- Ensure sub-second latency and high-throughput performance across customer-facing APIs and internal services.
