About the job
MBRYONICS is at the forefront of free space optical communications. Our product portfolio covers a wide range of emerging technologies from photonic integrated circuits to advanced optical systems and embedded software solutions. Our optical communications systems are integrated and deployed in satellite communications systems. The work is exciting and challenging and is at the forefront of the technology domains. As part of our expansion, we are currently seeking a suitably motivated Senior Photonics Design Engineer to join our team. What you’ll doYou will take an active role in the full Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) development lifecycle, contributing from concept to validation. This includes:
- Defining and tracking requirements and specifications in alignment with system-level or customer goals, in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders across a broad range of disciplines, including design, fabrication, packaging, and test engineering.
- Design and optimise complex active and passive, large-scale PICs at the system, device and component level
- Propose and implement innovative design solutions across multiple technology domains including assembly integration and testing of photonics from component package to system level
- Design source and simulate photonic components and photonic integrated circuits, including related electronics, and packaging
- Design detailed layout of photonic devices and simulate the circuits with common computer-aided design (CAD) tools including Lumerical, Nazca Design, and Klayout.
- Implement and improve in house design toolsets, quality and traceability procedures and DRC scripts to enable PIC our design workflow.
- Hands-on testing of PICs at die level and in system.
- Evaluate design solutions with simulations and compare with test data
- Plan and execute component and photonic system tests
- Work with foundries and manufacturers to plan and monitor research co-developments, prototyping and production timelines
- Present verbal and written findings to cross-functional teams and supervise both other photonics designers and intern students
