Atom Computing is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to drive innovation at the intersection of infrastructure, security, and advanced computing. In this role, you’ll design, implement, and maintain the systems and networks that power our cutting-edge quantum computing environment. You’ll work across both on-premises and cloud infrastructure—ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance through thoughtful automation and robust security practices.
As a key member of the IT organization reporting to the Director of IT, you’ll collaborate closely with engineers, physicists, and developers to enable seamless operation of research and corporate systems. This position requires both technical depth and a hands-on approach to system design, deployment, and lifecycle management. Your work will directly support the mission of building the world’s most advanced quantum computers.
Due to the nature of on-premise infrastructure, this role is required to be in the office in Boulder at least 3 days per week.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research, design, and implement company-wide IT projects. Some of these projects include MDM deployment across various OS’s, SSO integration, IAM Management, provisioning of enterprise resources, and software patching.
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
- Manage internal hardware infrastructure, and IaaS infrastructure. Deploy best practices across the various environments, and ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability based on firmware/security updates and patching.
- Optimize IAM, DNS, DHCP and other critical services that run across all system environments.
- Use scripting and/or MDM platforms to manage user system and application updates.
- Keep any physical and virtual systems up-to-date with the latest security updates and vulnerability updates.
- Assist with Level I, II, III ticket queue, user administration, security, hardware management and any other day-to-day IT-related items.
- Partner with cross-functional teams across the organization, specific to DevOps, and Control Systems to assist with infrastructure needs.
- Monitor and test system / application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify solutions.
Experience & Education:
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related STEM field.
- 5+ years of experience in an IT role
Qualifications:
- Experience with Proxmox hypervisors and bare-metal system configuration / integration (iDRAC), and backup management.
- Knowledge and experience with all 3 major operating systems, Ubuntu, MacOS, and Windows.
- Experience with PaaS and IaaS environments like GSuite, Office365, AWS, OKTA, SSO (SCIM Provisioning)
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (DataDog), with SIEM Integrations.
- Experience with advanced OKTA IAM features such as automated workflows, app integration with a HRIS platform, and SSO setup and configuration using JIT/SCIM
- Experience with enterprise-grade MDM platforms both Windows and MAC systems; Preferred Microsoft InTune and Kandji for MACs.
- Ability to run multiple technical projects at once using a SaaS PM software.

The base salary range for this position is between $120,000 - $155,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, we offer an annual bonus and incentive stock options for equity in the company.
