Intuit’s Small Business & Mid-Market Index (SMB Index) team is on a mission to elevate Intuit’s role as a trusted source of economic insights for small and mid-sized businesses. The Index provides timely, data-driven indicators of small business health—enabling policymakers, media, and customers to better understand how small businesses power the economy.
As a Senior Data Scientist on the SMB Index team, you will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and expanding Intuit’s economic indexes and research programs. You’ll combine advanced statistical modeling with analytical storytelling to produce credible, actionable insights. Your work will directly influence public understanding of small business performance and help shape Intuit’s broader thought leadership in the mid-market space.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Scientist on the SMB Index team, you will:
- Build and manage the Mid-Market Index end-to-end, partnering with economists and research teams to ensure methodological rigor, accuracy, and transparency.
- Run and improve monthly production pipelines, performing quality checks, robustness testing, and benchmarking against official statistics.
- Develop and maintain advanced models, including ARIMA-based seasonal adjustments, temporal disaggregation (e.g., Chow-Lin), Flexible Least Squares, and imputation methods (e.g., Random Forests, XGBoost).
- Implement a systematic insight workflow to structure, extract, analyze, and deploy findings—leveraging GenAI and LLMs to accelerate modeling and enable stakeholder self-service.
- Produce actionable insights from Index and survey data and partner with the Data Communications team on quarterly research and survey-based studies; translate results into clear visuals and narratives for leadership, public reports, and PR.
- Drive methodological innovation and peer review, collaborating closely with economists, analysts, and engineers.
- Uphold high standards for data integrity, documentation, and reproducibility to strengthen Intuit’s analytics and credibility
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in data science, economics, or applied analytics, preferably in fintech, economic research, or SaaS.
Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience using R or STATA for statistical analysis. - Proven experience building data pipelines, performing ETL, and leveraging cloud-based platforms such as AWS, Databricks
- Expertise in time-series analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning.
- Familiarity with GenAI and LLM-based tools to automate data workflows and generate analytical insights.
- Experience designing, administering, and analyzing survey data, including panel datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate insights clearly, both visually and verbally, to technical and executive audiences.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to operate in cross-functional environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or Computer Science; Master’s preferred.
