School 21 is one of the most exciting schools in the country, pioneering a range of powerful approaches to the curriculum and teaching. This is a great time to join a science department that teaches science from 4 to 18 and combines discrete science lessons with rich interdisciplinary projects. Whether your interest is teaching A level chemistry, inspiring pupils in our new middle school school or developing deep thinking in our secondary school, School 21 is a place where there is a rich and exciting mix of ideas about the best pedagogies and curriculum. Ideally, you will be an experienced A-level chemistry teacher and it is essential that you have a passion for developing the best pedagogy for that age range.

Science comes alive at School 21 as students grapple with the big ideas that underpin the world around us. Teachers plan challenging and exciting projects, develop thinking skills to a high level and foster collaborations with other subjects across the curriculum. Recent science projects have included STEM projects and a genetics and drama project: is it ever right to play God?, a physics and art project with students designing and making mini-golf courses using mechanisms and electronic components, and an immersive Jack the Ripper tour featuring Virtual Reality film and live demonstrations of Victorian criminology techniques.

School 21 is a very special and different kind of place to work in. We empower staff to find their voice and their creativity. We offer collaboration and learning across ages and subjects. All staff have more planning time than most schools and a tailored programme of professional development which results in extraordinary outcomes for the students. We offer multiple routes to progression through subjects and pedagogies. We believe strongly in developing the full potential of all staff.

Within the sixth form, we will seek to pair students with experts and experienced professionals in various scientific fields to undertake research, on-site projects, or work placements. Our aim here will be to stretch our students beyond the A-level course and to give them opportunities to experience science at the cutting edge of discovery. You will work alongside the other science teachers in an inspirational department to develop the curriculum and schemes of work. You will analyse student data to identify underachievement and develop intervention strategies to ensure all students make outstanding progress.

Since we opened in 2012 we have put learning and teaching at the heart of everything we do. We have developed a unique approach to oracy including setting up a charity, Voice 21 (https://www.voice21.org/) which is already working with several hundred schools. We have also pioneered real world, interdisciplinary learning in collaboration with a network of extraordinary organisations: creative, artistic, high tech, professional.

At School 21 we believe that the purpose of education is to develop the whole child: head (academics), heart (character and well-being) and hand (generating ideas, problem solving, creating extraordinary authentic outcomes).
