About the job
At Verto, we’re passionate about helping businesses in emerging markets reach the world. What first started life as an FX solution for trading specific currencies has now become a market-leading platform, changing the way thousands of businesses transfer money in and out of emerging markets.
We believe that where you do business shouldn’t determine how successful you are or your ability to scale. Millions of companies daily juggle long settlement periods, high transaction fees, and limited liquidity when trading with businesses across emerging markets. We’re on a mission to change this by creating equal access to seamless payment and liquidity solutions that are already a given in developed markets.
We’re not alone in realising the opportunity and need to solve for emerging markets. We’re backed by world-class investors, including Y-Combinator, Quona, and MEVP, power payments for some of the most disruptive start-ups in the world, and have a list of accolades from leading publications, including being voted Fintech Start-Up of the Year at the Fintech Awards London 2022.
Each year we process billions of dollars in payments and provide companies with solutions that help them save money, automate processes, and grow—but we’re only just getting started.
We’re seeking a Sales Development Representative (SDR) to join our growing team in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and qualifying potential leads, setting up sales meetings, and driving Verto’s sales pipeline. You will work closely with the sales team to generate new opportunities and play a crucial role in Verto’s growth in South Africa and beyond.
In this role you will:
Generate Leads: Actively prospect and identify new business opportunities through research, cold calling, and outreach.
Qualify Prospects: Use effective questioning techniques to qualify leads based on their business needs and potential for success with Verto.
Book Meetings: Schedule and secure sales meetings for the sales team by engaging with decision-makers in targeted companies.
Manage Lead Pipeline: Track and manage leads in the CRM system, ensuring no opportunity slips through the cracks.
Collaborate with Sales Team: Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to align on messaging, campaigns, and follow-up strategies.
Nurture Relationships: Build rapport with potential clients to create trust and lay the foundation for a successful sales process.
Utilise CRM Tools: Effectively use Hubspot, Salesforce (or similar CRM tools) to manage contacts, update activities, and monitor outreach effectiveness.
Stay Up-to-Date: Keep informed of market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity to stay ahead in the prospecting process.
You’ll be responsible for:
Generating a high volume of qualified leads for the sales team within the first 6 months.
Contributing to the expansion of the sales pipeline by consistently booking meetings with decision-makers.
Meeting or exceeding key performance metrics such as call volume, meetings booked, and lead qualification rate.
Skills and Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience in a sales development, inside sales, or customer service role (experience in B2B or fintech is a plus).
Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with potential clients via phone, email, and other channels.
Results-driven and motivated by hitting targets and achieving goals.
Familiarity with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and sales prospecting techniques.
Ability to quickly learn and understand Verto’s product offerings and value propositions.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple prospects at once.
Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field is a plus, but not required.
Core Challenges:
Efficiently managing a high volume of leads while ensuring quality outreach and engagement.
Quickly qualifying leads and identifying the most promising opportunities for the sales team.
Overcoming objections and building interest in Verto’s services in a competitive market.
