The Product Quality Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring product and supplier quality. This role involves providing quality assurance expertise, performing hands-on failure analysis of field returns, and supporting supplier development and management. This is an opportunity to join the ranks of a brilliant, high-performance team, deploying cutting-edge technology to address real-world logistics challenges for major global brands.

This is a hybrid role based out of Locus Robotics’ Corporate Headquarters in Wilmington, MA. The role also includes up to 10% travel to contract manufacturing suppliers throughout New England.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for product quality and reliability in design and new product introduction (NPI), including DFMEA and DVT activities.
  • Drive design-for-excellence (DfX) improvements and ensure manufacturing readiness for NPI.
  • Use problem-solving methodologies to analyze and improve supplier performance, reducing non-conformances.
  • Conduct risk-based assessments, certify products/processes, and implement supply chain mitigation controls.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Field Service to identify trends, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions.
  • Enhance data management systems for supplier qualification, performance tracking, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as technical expert for assigned commodities, supporting supplier performance through inspections and first article reviews.
  • Coordinate supplier quality communications, including new part qualification, discrepant material resolution, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor and analyze field quality data to identify failure trends, ensure data accuracy, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Lead efficient failure analysis programs to deliver timely root cause and corrective action in collaboration with Engineering and Operations.
  • Capture and integrate supplier and product quality lessons learned into upstream processes.
  • Lead 8D teams and act as SME for supplier and product quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of related technical/engineering experience, with a background in electro-mechanical and electronics assembly processes.
  • Strong knowledge in GD&T, mechanical design evaluation, and manufacturing/measurement methods for sheet metal, machining, casting, injection molding, and welding.
  • Demonstrated proficiency managing electromechanical assembly contract manufacturers.
  • Understanding of SMT, wave solder processes, ICT, Flying Probe, AOI inspection, IPC 600, IPC 610, and IPC 620 is desired.
  • Demonstrated proficiency performing PPAP/FAI reviews and approval.
  • Team Oriented Problem Solving using globally accepted methodologies such as 8D, CAPA, DMAIC, PDCA, FMEA, DOE, FTA, etc.
  • Lean Sigma experience, familiarity with concepts such as 6S, VSM, Kaizen, OEE, standardized work, TAKT Time etc.
  • Strong system background based on experience with globally accepted quality system standards such as ISO9001, ISO13485, TS16949 or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and application of statistics with a clear understanding of SPC, process capability, Cpk, MSA, regression analysis, hypothesis testing, sampling, etc.
  • Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
