About the job

The Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana invites applications for a postdoctoral or PhD research position. Several positions are opened.

Position Overview
The successful candidate will conduct research in quantum and quantum-classical algorithm development, focusing on variational quantum and classical annealing. Key research topics include but are not limited to: 
  • Variational classical annealing with tensor networks or neural quantum states
  • Variationa quantum annealing with parametrised quantum circuits
  • Hybrid methods 
Desired Expertise 
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: 
  •  Parameterized quantum circuits 
  •  Variational quantum eigensolvers 
  •  Time-dependent variational principles  
  •  Adiabatic quantum computing 
  •  Tensor networks 
  •  Neural quantum states 
The selected candidate will join the research group of Assist. Prof. Bojan Žunkovič at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science. The group collaborates with experts in machine learning, classical algorithms, and many-body quantum systems, with research topics including:  Adiabatic  quantum computing, Parametrised quantum circuits, Quantum optimisation, Tensor networks for machine learning, Neural quantum states for many-body quantum systems.

Position Details 
 - Start Date: Winter 2025  
 - Duration: Initial contract of two years, with the possibility of a two(or three)-year extension. The PhD is 4 years.
