POSITION TITLE: PARAPROFESSIONAL (Elementary & Secondary)
CONTRACT YEAR: 10 – MONTH CONTRACT

START DATE: AUGUST 1 (CALENDAR YEAR AUGUST TO JUNE)
Job Description: The candidate for this position will assist the classroom teacher with facilitating instruction and shared management of classroom supervision as assigned. The candidate for this position will promote the efficiency of classroom instruction by assisting the teacher with prepared instructional activities, facilitating small and whole class activities, and other library duties as assigned.
BCPS will offer a combination of a fully remote and/or in-person model of instruction for students. Instructional assistants will be working in collaboration with their classroom teacher to prepare and deliver lessons, materials, and participate in professional development virtually, and offer in-person instruction as required. Protocols for daily health screening and sanitizing for the work environment will be followed according to the VDH and CDC guidelines.
Direct Accountability and Report: Works under the supervision of the building principal and direct supervision of the classroom teacher. An annual classified evaluation will be based on the job description, district, and personal goals and objectives specific to the school or the position.
EDUCATION
- To obtain highly qualified status the candidate must have
- High School Diploma with the ability to pass the ParaPro assessment or
- Possess an Associates Degree
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three (3) years working with students in some instructional setting preferred.
General duties of the Instructional Aide (ParaProfessional) include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare, plan, and organize lessons and educational programs under the guidance of the Instructor
- Prepare all materials for the lesson, including any handouts, worksheets, and exams
- Assist teacher/class with instructional activities.
- Assist classroom teachers with supervision, observation, grading, and record keeping.
- Helps to maintain an organized and responsive learning environment.
- Set up any displays, bulletin boards, or work areas prior to the lesson
- Ensuring the health and safety of children within the organization.
- Complete clerical duties as needed so that the Instructor can focus on teaching.
- Assist the teacher and/or administer assessments on students in order to assess their progress, strengths, and weaknesses
- Other duties as assigned.
