The Compost Company is seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in Ashland City. This full-time position is critical to the uptime and performance of our mobile and fixed equipment. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of machines used in compost production—including grinders, loaders, excavators, trucks, and related support equipment.
Working under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the mechanic ensures all repairs are timely, safe, and cost-effective while supporting overall site operations and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment and vehicles
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on a variety of machines
- Conduct on-site and field repairs to minimize downtime
- Maintain detailed service logs and records for all equipment in accordance with company protocols
- Communicate daily with the Maintenance Manager about equipment status and repair priorities
- Assist with sourcing parts, tools, and service vendors as needed
- Support compliance with safety standards and environmental permits through equipment integrity
- Collaborate with Equipment Operators and Site Staff to monitor machine condition and usage patterns
- Participate in occasional after-hours or weekend repairs as necessary to ensure site operations
- 3+ years experience as a heavy equipment mechanic (agriculture, construction, waste or forestry equipment preferred)
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced outdoor environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation
- Valid driver's license (CDL a plus)
- Welding/fabrication skills a plus
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
