Job duties will include assisting with planting, tillage, irrigation, chemical or fertilizer application, harvesting and delivery to packaging and/or processing facilities, for all crops. Other job duties will include the following: assisting with harvesting activities by using lower level harvesting equipment, including hand harvested and machine harvested crops; loading seed into planters properly and operate equipment to plant cotton, corn, soybeans, and rice; participating in irrigation activities including laying pipe, setting up and operating irrigation equipment and clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches; building, constructing and maintaining levees, installing and removing levy gates and putting in spillways; constructing and/or installing a variety of frames to support plants, bushes and/or berries; walking rice, soybean and corn fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops; rogue rice fields by walking fields on foot when fields are under full flood to remove undesirable off type rice varieties and other indigenous off type plants from each field for purity of variety in rice seed production; draining excess water from fields; opening drainage overfill pipes; and walk each field to check for standing water; receiving rice crop for drying and storage at grain drying facility; disposing of spoiled grain and chopping grass out of fields; hauling grain from fields to grain bins; loading and unloading grain into trucks while keeping grain level; general maintenance, repairs and/or clean-up of storage sheds, pivot points, buildings, fences, gates, barns and all farm equipment. Ensure that operational areas are organized and well maintained; bagging oats, dry rice and corn; operating tractors, tractor drawn machinery and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray, and harvest soybeans, rice and corn and plant cotton; using hand tools and equipment to repair, clean and maintain farm vehicles, machinery and specialized machinery and agricultural equipment including grain augers; planting cotton and corn and harvesting corn as minor activities; performing low level maintenance/preventative maintenance to farm equipment; using the employer's vehicles, licensed drivers may transport workers and may be offered additional hours; assisting in Good Agricultural Practices policies; performing chemical and fertilizer applications (must be 18 years or older); maintaining harvest records and product information to report to food safety and shipping; transporting of produce to packaging and processing facilities. (Some positions may require an International Drivers License/CDL if you are required to operate a straight truck, transport hazardous chemicals, and/or operate tractor trailer); and running irrigation systems and injecting chemicals and/or fertilizers. There are few typical days and a farm laborer may be required to change duties and/or locations often, and engage in various general functions. Pay increase or bonus may be possible to employees depending on experience or merit.
