Position Summary:
Reporting to the VP of Member Engagement, the Energy Solutions Manager is responsible for managing the Co-op’s energy efficiency programs as well as related social and environmental initiatives. The Manager will collaborate with key NHEC stakeholders to develop, direct, and oversee monitoring, evaluation, and regulatory compliance of energy efficiency programs, ensuring the Co-op meets current and future requirements. In addition, the Manager will partner with internal subject matter experts to investigate, develop, and recommend programs, initiatives, and measurable goals that align with evolving energy policy, while also serving as the people leader of the Energy Solutions team. The Manager will also partner with the Energy Solutions Executive on all regulatory and reporting activities.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Manages program administrators and other staff working in Energy Star Home, Home Performance with Energy Star, Home Energy Assistance, Energy Star Products, Small Business Energy Solutions, Large C&I Retrofit, Municipal Program, Load Management, and Distributed Energy Resources such as solar and geo-thermal interconnection.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement in workflow, management, member service, automation in energy efficiency programs, and implements these improvements on a continuous basis.
- Ensures each energy efficiency program is supported by multiple program administrators for the purposes of operational consistency, member support, and succession planning.
- Evaluates and implements other opportunities for improvement in the organization of the Energy Solutions team, including contracting, vendor relationships, inter-connection, business development, and marketing.
- Works with the Energy Solutions Executive to establish monitoring and evaluation plans to determine the effectiveness of the NHEC's energy efficiency programs and ensures compliance with ISO-NE requirements. Oversees contractors who are engaged to complete evaluations.
- Builds relationships within the Co-op with relevant departments (including Operations, Engineering, Finance, Member Engagement, and Power Resources) to both meet member needs and ensure these teams are knowledgeable about its programs.
- Participates in cross-utility and stakeholder teams and sub-groups, in coordination with the Energy Executive, to represent NHEC strategic goals and member interests regarding current and future EE plan development and regulatory issues.
- Collaborates with Energy Executive to jointly represent NHEC’s strategic goals and member interests through involvement with affinity organizations, such as the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy Board, Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership and Consortium for Energy Efficiency.
- Oversees annual strategic planning and legislative activities to provide input and feedback to help guide program development.
- Works in partnership with the Energy Executive in the development of the Triennial Plan via NHSaves to the Public Utilities Commission.
- Hires and develops high performing team members, sets clear expectations, develops an environment to support employees in obtaining the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Conducts regular 1:1 meetings, performance assessments, and professional development plans with direct reports.
- Supports the strategic goals of NHEC by developing, reporting on, and achieving Balanced Scorecard objectives.
- Supports financial goals of NHEC by collaborating on the development of program budgets and plans.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Business Management or related field, plus ten (10) years of related experience in developing and implementing a wide range of programs, products and services which impact members, or 11 years of equivalent experience in lieu of bachelor’s degree
- Experience with programs, products and services include but not be limited to energy efficiency, renewable energy, account management, load growth and retention, and technical support.
- Must be able to effectively lead across a wide range of disciplines including engineering, project/program management, field operations as well as cross functionally within other divisions.
- 2-4 years as a People Leader. Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide staff, allocate resources effectively, and drive results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- An advanced degree
- Prior experience in a utility environment.
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency while maintaining seamless service.
- In-depth knowledge of the energy consumer’s fuel-blind value chain, from commodity supply to end use.
- Expertise in developing market-driven energy solutions and building business infrastructure to support profitable programs, products, and services.
- Understanding of electric utility infrastructure, operations, and support to implement optimal energy solutions

- Power Restoration
- Assistance with power restoration is required of all employees.
- Employees will be assigned functions to support power restoration and for some employees that may be different from their normal duties.
- Such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays which may involve considerable extra hours.
