Drilling Superintendent

Airswift is looking for a Drilling Superintendent to work in a contractor (12 months, with a strong possibility of extension) position in Mexico City for an oil and gas company. Lead and supervise all drilling and completion execution activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of wells in alignment with the project objectives. Act as the company’s operational representative for drilling operations, maintaining direct interface with rig contractor as well as service and logistic providers. Ensure HSES excellence is embedded in every stage of drilling execution, proactively identifying risks and implementing robust mitigation measures. Manage and coordinate drilling resources, both offshore and onshore, to ensure seamless operational support and delivery. Drive continuous improvement through performance monitoring, lessons learned, and application of best practices and innovative technologies. Lead the offshore team: drilling supervisors, wellsite drilling engineers, and associated field personnel, fostering knowledge transfer and operational discipline and excellence. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Execute drilling and completion programs in compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to guarantee well integrity and operational safety. Monitor drilling and completion operations on a daily basis, analyze performance, resolve technical challenges, and recommend corrective or optimization measures. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (drilling, completion, subsurface, logistics, HSES, procurement) to align operational activities with project objectives. Manage and supervise drilling contractor performance, ensuring adherence to contracts, service quality, and operational standards. Lead and supervise geotechnical operations, ensuring proper planning, execution, and integration with overall well delivery and HSES requirements. Ensure well control procedures, emergency response plans, and contingency strategies are in place and effectively implemented. Participate in and lead operational risk assessments, DWOPs, CWOPs, and SIMOPS to ensure alignment across all stakeholders. Provide oversight of drilling costs, ensuring well execution remains within approved AFE and that cost control mechanisms are applied. Lead daily rig calls and coordinate with offshore supervisors to guarantee alignment with drilling plans and address deviations. Lead Management of Change (MoC) processes for operations activities and ensure technical and operational compliance. Participate in and lead the technical aspects of the drilling rig contractor tender process, including rig inspection, technical evaluation, and contractor selection. Develop, track, and report drilling KPIs, conduct performance reviews with contractors and integrate lessons learned into future operations. Ensure proper documentation of operational performance, post-drilling analysis, and End of Well Reports (EOWR). Maintain strong communication with authorities and regulatory bodies, ensuring permits, approvals, and compliance are in place before operations commence. Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and support the Wells Manager during incidents or emergencies. Lead by example in promoting a strong HSES culture at the rig site and within the D&W team. Contribute to the development of the BU Mexico Wells department and maintain strong interaction with HQ. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Experience in drilling operations and well engineering, including supervisory roles. Proven track record as a Drilling Superintendent with direct experience in exploration and development wells in Mexico with IOCs. Solid experience in drilling and completion operations, well testing, well control, remediation operations, fishing, and SIMOPS.
