Role

The Data Engineer will play a key role within the System Performance Division, which leverages data as a strategic asset to drive improvement and evidence-based decision-making.

This role sits within the Data Operations and Service directorate, responsible for ingesting, storing, and managing high-quality data that supports analytics and reporting functions.

As a Data Engineer, you will develop and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines using Microsoft Azure and Databricks, ensuring data is accurate, reliable, and readily available for business intelligence and strategic use. You’ll work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, providing technical guidance and supporting data-driven initiatives that contribute to the organisation’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver technical expertise in the design, development, and implementation of data engineering solutions using Microsoft Azure and Databricks.

Build and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines to support analytics and reporting requirements.

Attend stakeholder meetings to understand data requirements and contribute to technical solutions.

 Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business users, to deliver data solutions aligned with strategic goals.

 Ensure data quality, accuracy, and integrity through rigorous validation and governance practices.

Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and documentation for data workflows and infrastructure.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and promote a culture of data literacy and innovation.


What You’ll Need

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Databricks (or similar cloud-based data platforms).
  • Strong knowledge of data pipeline development, data modelling, and transformation.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data-related issues while maintaining data quality.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for varied audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on data-driven initiatives.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging data engineering technologies and best practices.

Desirable Criteria

  • Microsoft Certifications in Azure SQL, Synapse, Databricks, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with Snowflake or other modern data warehouse environments.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Experience working within public sector or large-scale enterprise environments.
