Job Summary: The Chief Financial Officer is a key member of the Executive Leadership team, serving as a strategic leader of financial planning, evaluation, and implementation that ensures seamless financial operations and sustainability for the organization. A key partner to the CEO, the CFO must bring strong strategic, operations, and data analysis skills to the team in a lead capacity. An ability to solve complex problems in a collaborative manner is a key attribute needed in the CFO. Acting as a self-starter and willing and able to take an innovative approach to the work are required for this role. The CFO has overall responsibility for overseeing all financial operations of the organization while ensuring the organization’s financial health and sustainability.

Responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Manage and oversee all phases of financial data input, tracking, and reporting including supervision of accounting staff and review of A/P, A/R, payroll and the general ledger, ensuring proper function of all systems.
  • Supervise the billing and reimbursement functions to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Manage month end closing including bank reconciliations, GL postings, overhead allocations, and financial reports.
  • Evaluate and implement opportunities to improve financial systems, processes and controls.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Ensure preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including budget, metrics, and written analysis exhibits for presentation to the CEO and the Board.
  • Utilize data to prepare ad hoc reports to monitor financial health, guide short and long term decision making, and identify opportunities for process and control improvements.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Prepare and manage budgets by funding sources/functional units.
  • Assess and evaluate performance in accordance with established short and long term operational goals, budgets and forecasts.

Compliance

  • Provide the Governing Board and Finance Committee with financial reports and verbal/written analysis.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state and federal tax returns, as well as financial reports for state regulators and other users (internal and external).
  • Serve as key point of contact for external auditors.
  • Represent the Company with banks, financial partners, institutions, donors, officials, and internal users that distribute results to external partners/organizations.

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Act as strategic business partner on the executive leadership team.
  • Provide insight and recommendations to both short-term and long-term growth plan of organization.
  • Recruit, interview and hire finance and billing staff as required.
  • Design and implement policies, procedures and processes for the Finance Department.

Risk Management

  • Manage cash flow planning, cash flow analysis. and asset management areas.
  • Remain current on audit best practices, and state, federal and local law regarding organizational operations.
  • Secure insurance coverage for all areas of the organization, ensuring appropriate and fiscally responsible coverage.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.

Equipment Used:

· Computer, printer, scan/copy/fax machine, accounting software, Electronic Health Records system, project management tool, Microsoft 365

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a nonprofit organization with extensive knowledge in financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting preferred.
  • Experience in billing in a medical or clinical environment/experience using an Electronic Health Records system for revenue cycle management.
  • CPA preferred

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Outstanding knowledge and understanding of GAAP accounting standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership ability, confidence and executive presence.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and the use of technology tools to support work efficiency.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in daily work.
  • Works well independently and takes initiative to solve problems and complete tasks and projects.
  • Ability to make sound judgments.
  • Adhere to established safety procedures and practices in the work area.
