Department: Near Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures Position: Hebrew Bible and the Ancient Near East Rank: Assistant Professor Description: The Department of Near Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Hebrew Bible and the Ancient Near East at the rank of assistant professor. We seek a dynamic, innovative scholar whose research and teaching engage with the Hebrew Bible in, for example, its ancient Near Eastern linguistic, literary, cultural, social, or political contexts and as a work of cross-cultural significance. Our department values interdisciplinarity in the study of languages and cultures, and we are especially interested in scholars who incorporate approaches and insights from multiple fields of study, including (but not restricted to) anthropology, archaeology, folklore, gender and sexuality studies, history, linguistics, literary studies, and religious studies. The department greatly values diversity and inclusive pedagogy. The successful applicant will teach across all levels of our curriculum, including introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, and, when appropriate, contribute to curriculum development. They will have opportunities to collaborate with other programs within the College of Arts & Sciences and across the university, including the Center for the Study of Religion, the Melton Center for Jewish Studies, Religion in the Ancient Mediterranean, and the Humanities Collaboratory. Qualifications: This appointment will begin August 15, 2023, and the successful applicant should have PhD in hand by the start of employment. The PhD may be in any field of study relevant to the study of the Hebrew Bible. Expertise in the languages, literatures, and cultures of the ancient Near East (Mesopotamia, Western Asia, Egypt) is desirable. ABDs are welcome to apply.
