About the job

The Department of Neuroscience at Tufts University School of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience. Candidates with strong experience in computational neuroscience are encouraged to apply. We seek creative scientists who leverage innovative computational approaches—spanning molecular and cellular mechanisms through circuits, systems, and behavior—to reveal how synapses and neurons drive circuit function and dysfunction.

Why Tufts Neuroscience

Join a thriving, highly collaborative department with >$15M in annual extramural support and deep connections across the Tufts ecosystem. Our location in downtown Boston places us at the heart of a world-class biomedical community, adjacent to Tufts Medical Center, enabling rich translational and clinical collaborations. Faculty also engage across Tufts schools (e.g., Engineering/BME, Veterinary, Dental, Nutrition, Public Health) and with regional partners.

Core Strengths & Resources

Our department’s strengths include synaptic excitation/inhibition, neuron–glia interactions, circuit dynamics, models of neurological and psychiatric disorders (including epilepsy and neurodegeneration), neuroinflammation, and animal and human iPSC-derived cellular models. We offer:

  • Generous start-up packages and newly renovated lab space
  • Shared cores for advanced imaging and behavioral testing
  • Mentorship by engaged senior faculty and structured career development
  • A collegial culture that values team science, openness, and impact

Candidate Profile & Expectations

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent) with a record of research commensurate with career stage. The successful candidate will:

  • Build a rigorous, externally funded research program in computational neuroscience
  • Contribute to graduate and medical education and mentoring
  • Engage in collaborative scholarship across the department, Tufts Medical Center, and the wider Tufts network
