We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Assistant Store Manager to support the daily operations of our Family Dollar store in Richmond, VA. You will work closely with the Store Manager to lead the team, deliver excellent customer service, maintain store standards, and help reach sales and shrink targets. This role is ideal for a motivated leader who enjoys working on the sales floor, coaching associates, and keeping the store organized and safe for customers and team members.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Store Manager with daily store operations, opening/closing procedures, and cash handling
- Lead and supervise store associates during your shift, ensuring tasks are completed on time and up to company standards
- Deliver friendly, helpful, and professional customer service, resolving customer issues or complaints promptly
- Maintain store standards, including stocking, facing, pricing, cleaning, and recovery of sales floor and stockroom
- Assist with scheduling, task assignments, and follow-up to ensure proper coverage and productivity
- Monitor inventory levels, assist with receiving, stocking, and inventory counts to minimize shrink
- Enforce company policies and safety procedures, ensuring a clean, safe environment for customers and employees
- Help drive sales by executing promotions, signage, and merchandising standards
- Train, coach, and provide feedback to associates to improve performance and customer service
- Support loss prevention efforts by monitoring high-risk areas and following all cash and key control procedures
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in retail or service management, preferably as an Assistant Manager, Shift Lead, or Supervisor
- Proven experience supervising a small team and managing daily operations in a fast-paced environment
- Strong customer service, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to handle cash, perform basic math, and follow cash handling procedures accurately
- Comfortable working on your feet, lifting merchandise (up to 40 lbs), and performing physical tasks throughout the shift
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Reliable, responsible, and able to follow company policies and safety standards
- High school diploma or equivalent required
