About the job

St. Paul’s was founded in 1926 and was the first school in South America to receive accreditation from the UK government as a British School Oversees. Fully coeducational, with about 1,000 pupils, aged from 3 to 18, it is a school with history and tradition, but which embraces innovation, contemporary values and the latest in digital learning. Paulean are members of a caring community and are supported in their learning by the best in pastoral care. It is our aim to discover the passion and talents of every pupil, and create the right environment to develop these. Pupils leave us confident, assured and well prepared for an exciting life, and a multitude of opportunities, often at top universities both in Brazil and abroad.  Pauleans are many things, but most of all they are themselves. It is this which prepares them for the unknown and an exciting life in the world beyond school.

We are a world-class school, and an international member of HMC and IAPS, and a member of COBIS and the LAHC. We are proud of our local, national and international reputation and we constantly strive to improve the opportunities for our pupils and staff.  Our recent BSO inspection judged us as a leading British School overseas, and you can download the report from our website.

Constantly seeking to improve our facilities, the school has undertaken an almost continuous programme of building works over the past 20 years as it has gradually grown; this includes extensive refurbishment and extension of the original school building, the creation of a sixth form centre and library and in August 2014 we opened our multimillion real underground state of the art sports centre.  In February 2016 we inaugurated our new academic centre, which houses a learning resources suite, music and arts centre, music recording facilities, and 10 modern science laboratories.  This exceptional facility places teaching and learning at the heart of the school.

More details about the school can be found at www.stpauls.br.

General

The school seeks a passionate, enthusiastic and talented practitioner with qualifications and experience to teach across the Senior School age range (Years 7 to 13). English is a strong and dynamic department in the school, offering courses at IGCSE and IB.

In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate will a have a pastoral role and be a tutor to a group of 12 - 15 Senior School pupils. Tutoring is a significant part of a teacher's responsibilities at St. Paul's, both in terms of time devoted to it and its contribution towards the successful running of the school. Participation in the clubs and societies will also be expected.

A full commitment to the life of the school is expected, as is a desire to pursue both your own professional development, as well as an aspiration to help the school continue to develop and extend its reputation for excellence.

For expatriate staff the package is a two-year (renewable) contract that includes:

  • return flights (at the start and end of each contract)
  • luggage allowances (outbound and return)
  • visa expenses
  • pension scheme
  • health care plan
  • dental treatment
  • UK sterling salary allowance
  • accommodation

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. The offer of the role would be made subject to receipt of satisfactory references, proof of relevant qualifications, identification checks and other safeguarding checks, an overseas check if appropriate and a pre-placement medical assessment. Proof of entitlement to work in Brazil is also required where necessary.
