About the job

We are seeking a talented and inspirational teacher of Computer Science to join The Grammar School at Leeds from September 2018.

Computer Science is studied as an optional subject at both GCSE and A-level which are followed using  the AQA specifications. Our KS3 curriculum aims to achieve all strands of the National Curriculum for computer science, with a strong emphasis on both programming and collaborative ICT skills. We are currently working on expanding our cross-curricular links and increasing the profile of computer science across the whole school community.

The department supports students through frequent clinics and targeted interventions. We offer a ‘Software Engineering Club’ twice per week in which students explore independent projects and are also encouraged to enter several national competitions each year. We have enjoyed significant successes in the BAFTA Young Game Designers competition and the British Informatics Olympiad. There is a student-led computing society which explores technology issues relating to student interests and we are very keen to see this grow.

The successful candidate will have excellent subject knowledge. A working understanding of Python 3 and Microsoft Office 365 would be desirable.

The successful candidate will also be instrumental in helping to further increase exam performance going forward and will therefore have proven record of achievement in this area. They will also have strong classroom management skills with the ability to teach and inspire pupils across the senior school age range (11-18 years).

Colleagues have the opportunity to participate in the wide range of extra-curricular activities available within the school and to support the house system.

There are also a range of generous non contractual benefits available including salary sacrifice schemes and access to the school gym and pool.

Full details of the post are shown in the job description and person specification on the school’s website. Application is by completion of the online GSAL application form.

Closing date: by 09:00 on: Monday 5 February 2018

Interviews will be held:  w/c 19 February 2018

In addition to formal interviews there will also be an opportunity for short-listed candidates to see around the School and meet members of the department. Part of the interview procedure will be to teach a lesson. Details will be made available with the call to interview. All short listed candidates will be provided with lesson briefs.

GSAL is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and an enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.

GSAL is an equal opportunities employer, selecting employees solely on merit irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age.
