YOUR ROLE: The Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Promega is responsible for leading the architecture, deployment, and ongoing management of secure, scalable, and highly available cloud infrastructure that aligns with business objectives and industry best practices. This role handles routine administration, resolves operational issues, and identifies incremental improvements while also guiding junior team members and supporting cross-functional collaboration. Through thoughtful, security-conscious practices and a focus on automation and continuous improvement, the Senior Infrastructure Engineer helps shape Promega’s technical environment and drive cloud strategy across the organization

 

CORE DUTIES:

1. Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure solutions primarily in Microsoft Azure and hybrid environments.

2. Participate in cloud platform architecture decisions and strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals and security frameworks.

3. Oversee administration and lifecycle management of critical cloud services, including Azure DevOps, Azure Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 environments ensuring high availability, business continuity, and performance tuning of cloud-based services.

4. Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex cloud-related incidents.

5. Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Azure ARM/Bicep, Terraform, or similar technologies. Create and manage CI/CD pipelines, scripts, and automation processes for routine operations and deployments.

6. Responsible for administering hypervisors and in-depth knowledge of virtualization technology, including the specific hypervisor platforms used in Promega's hybrid cloud environment.

7. Act as a key advisor to IT leadership on cloud strategy and investments. Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior administrators and IT peers.

8. Adhere to departmental and company values, processes, and standards.

9. Comply with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.

10. Work independently and contributes to Information Technology projects and tasks as assigned and exhibits strong time management skills.

11. Embrace change by adjusting priorities, workflows, and tools in response to evolving team and project needs. Apply feedback constructively and seek out opportunities to improve processes or skills.

12. Establish and refine proactive monitoring and alerting practices using cloud-native tools and third-party solutions to maintain uptime and performance SLAs across multiple environments.

13. Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for cloud services support, incident management, and disaster recovery.

14. Demonstrate clear and respectful communication with team members. Actively participate in meetings and/or lead, share relevant information, and seek clarification when needed. Collaborate effectively with peers to support shared goals and resolve basic issues.

15. Support cross-functional business areas by providing input and analysis related to position.

16. Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity and respect for others.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor or associate degree in IT or equivalent work experience, High School diploma or proven work experience that ensures you are ready to be successful in this role.

2. Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in cloud systems administration or engineering.

3. Advanced experience managing Microsoft Azure environments (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

4. Experience with cloud monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Splunk).

5. Expertise in Azure Automation, Azure DevOps, scripting (PowerShell, Python), Terraform and Git-based workflows.

6. Strong background in Windows Server, Active Directory, Hypervisors and M365 administration.

7. Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional projects and mentor others.

8. Experience with cloud monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Splunk).

9. Solid understanding of cloud networking, identity and access management, and cost optimization strategies.

10. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and communication skills.

 

11. Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with the ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to improve efficiency, automation, and collaboration.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 4-year bachelor's degree in computer systems or related field, or related work experience.

2. 10 years of experience in cloud computing.

3. Certifications in cloud computing technologies, such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional.

4. GIAC Public Cloud Security (GPCS) and/or GIAC Cloud Security Essentials (GCLD) certified.

5. Familiarity with hybrid environments (Azure Stack, on-prem integration).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to remain stationary for several hours at a time.
