Within Azure, the Azure Compute team is responsible for hosting virtual machines (VMs), containers, and other workloads that power this infrastructure.
A key discipline in cloud computing is capacity management. This involves ensuring that sufficient capacity is available across all regions, allocation domains, and hardware infrastructure to meet customer demand, while also provisioning resources efficiently to avoid unnecessary costs and capital expenditures (CAPEX). At Azure’s scale, managing this balance across the entire compute fleet is a complex challenge—one where even small improvements can significantly impact customer satisfaction and cost savings.
As a Software Engineering Manager on the Azure Compute Capacity and Efficiency (AC2E) team, you will lead efforts to manage capacity and efficiency across the platform. Our goal is to deliver a fully automated and optimized tracking and management system, with the Capacity Management Automation System (CMAS) at its core. This system leverages advanced algorithms and artificial intelligence to predict capacity risks and implement mitigation strategies directly within the Azure Compute platform. You will collaborate with engineers, program managers, and data scientists to define business problems and deliver end-to-end solutions. Your leadership will help shape strategic decisions, improve service fulfillment, and drive efficiency metrics such as cost of goods sold (COGS) reduction. The team applies techniques like anomaly detection, machine learning, and experimentation to solve real-world challenges at scale.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Azure Cloud Services development experience, or related.
- Experience with Programming skills (esp. related to data technologies like Python, PERL, Java, C#, etc.), and relational databases (Kusto, SQL or similar).
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
