Role Details
Location: San Francisco, CA. This role is based 2 days per week out of our San Francisco, HQ and is not eligible for full-time remote work.
Compensation:
- The IC2 base salary hiring range for this position is $135,000-$150,000 in addition to equity & benefits.
- The IC3 base salary hiring range for this position is $171,000-$190,000 in addition to equity & benefits.
- The IC4 base salary hiring range for this position is $198,000-$220,000 in addition to equity & benefits.
The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum compensation. Factors including location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience will determine compensation.

The Team and Role
- Gem engineers work closely with product managers and designers to influence product direction, company roadmap, and business outcomes.
- We stay close to customers by joining customer calls, and reading customer feedback.
- We enjoy shipping features, moving fast, and being scrappy.
- We are receptive to feedback and continuously work on improving both our product and our craft.

What You’ll Do Day-to-Day:
- Own product features end-to-end alongside your product manager, engineering manager and designer.
- Work primarily with Typescript, React, Python, GraphQL, Node, PostgreSQL.
- Collaborate with engineers on your team and across Gem on code reviews, data model, architecture, and product decisions.
- Stay close to our customers.
- Embody our company values of ownership, velocity, customer centricity, diversity and transparency.
- Influence decisions and have direct impact on business outcomes.
About You:
- You have 1–8 years of industry experience as a software engineer, building user-facing products.
- You move with velocity and invest in improving your craft.
- You are good at driving solutions by communicating and working cross-functionally.
- You are energized by collaborating in-office with your peers.
