Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Joby Aviation is seeking a driven engineer with an ability to understand complex problems and create reliable and repeatable solutions. This engineer will play a key role in a small, fast-moving team. They will participate in architecture, design and implementation of solutions that support our integrated vehicle simulators.

Specifically, this role focuses on software tools for configuring and launching simulator instances and connecting them with several network models. We are looking for software engineers with strong Python, Container virtualization, and computer networking skills.

• Architect, design and develop improvements and extensions for software to launch and interconnect complex software running in over 50 Docker containers
• Helping maintain existing solutions that manage these simulations
• Enhance the ability to manage integration of simulator instances with a variety of additional hardware and software solutions
• Improve the ways users can specify new configurations of the simulators and rapidly change configurations to meet testing needs
• Provide support and consulting to users of the simulation across the organization that depend on the simulators for their daily work
• Expand the tools to be able to integrate simulation of vehicle components not yet fully simulated

• University degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent and 5+ years full time industry experience. An advanced degree and 3+ yrs experience will also be considered.
• Expert knowledge of Python
• Understanding of Continuous Integration, Continuous Development (CI/CD) and DevOps tools
• Network experience (VLANs, UDP, Wireshark, etc)
• Willingness to be flexible and learn new technologies

• Familiarity with Linux OS and command line tools
• Experience with C++
• Previous experience supporting other engineers in the use of sustained tools
• Experience working with containerization technologies; docker experience preferred
• Ability to work effectively as a team member in a geographically distributed team

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $90,800 - $139,800/yr. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
