About the job

What You’ll Do:

As a Senior Software Engineer you will lead the integration and extensions of our existing product portfolio, help refine requirements for future capabilities, and in some cases assist in the design and development of core product capabilities. You will be a multiplier for the entire engineering team by delivering high-quality code on time, and by mentoring and providing support to your teammates whenever needed. You’ll work across program and engineering teams, interacting with program and product managers, designers, and other engineers in implementing the right-sized solution that meets customer requirements in a timely manner, while not compromising the operational stability of the overall product. You find great excitement and passion in being challenged; are able to find, evaluate, and leverage new technologies; have a love for solving complex problems; and are energized by making customers successful.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Execute all position responsibilities in alignment with Slingshot’s core values, mission, and purpose
  • Work with customers, program managers, product, and technical project managers to refine requirements, scope and estimate work, and align with longer-term technical strategy and roadmap of the organization
  • Coordinate technical design and implementation across teams to deliver customer requirements as extensions to core capabilities
  • Regularly communicate clear roles, goals and expectations for team members; promote a culture of feedback and accountability
  • Foster a culture of personal and professional growth
  • Leverage our leadership and management competencies to develop, lead and inspire a diverse, high-performing team
  • Participate in and lead Agile software development and deployment processes
  • Provide ongoing support for the services and applications that are critical to our business needs
  • Participate in customer engagements and lead technical discussions
  • Act as a mentor for other team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned (to be less than 10% of the responsibilities listed above)

Pre-Requisites

Minimum Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience designing and building durable, scalable, and high-availability systems in a fast-paced environment, preferably with Government customers
  • Bachelor’s (or higher-level) degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience using our stack or similar technologies (Node.js, Typescript, Python, Java/Kotlin, GraphQL, REST, Docker, Kubernetes, React)
  • Experience with cloud-based deployments (AWS) PaaS and IaaS offerings including some experience with Infrastructure-As-Code solutions
  • Experience with containers and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, EKS)
  • Deep working knowledge of version control (Git) and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions)
  • Experience with event-driven architectures including Kafka and CloudEvents, data platforms, microservices, and distributed systems
  • Proficiency delivering architectural/technical documentation
  • Leading initiatives to ensure unit and integration tests are part of the Definition of Done
  • Experience with database design, performance, and troubleshooting (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in security compliance accreditation such as NIST 800-53, DoD ILs, FedRAMP in higher-classification cloud or air-gapped environments
  • Experience with simulation technologies like HLA/DIS
  • Some experience with frontend technologies, specifically React, Three.js
  • Relevant AWS certifications
  • Experience working on a small, tight-knit, high-performing engineering team
  • Early-stage data-centric startup experience

*These skills are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. You don’t have to meet every qualification listed- if your skills are transferable and you meet the minimum requirements, we encourage you to apply.
