The opportunity

EY Belgium Data team supports our clients in defining and rolling out the right data architecture, data platform and infrastructure that support their needs, implement and maintain automated data pipelines, and infuse data through business intelligence and analytics. We are currently looking for capable and motivated professionals to join our team as Data Architect.

Your key responsibilities

As a Data Architect, you will support the clients in their journey to become data-driven, by capturing and understanding their business needs, and defining and implementing Data and Analytics reference architectures, solutions and roadmaps. Furthermore, you will actively help our practice in its objective to stay a Leader in AI & Data.

  • Define, guide and advise clients in developing data strategies
  • Engage with the clients to understand their business needs, pain points and realities
  • Gather, challenge and prioritize clients data requirements
  • Define and design innovative Data & Analytics architectures and solutions that leverage the right trade-off between clients realities, latest and disruptive technologies, current and future business needs, budget constraints, data availability and resource requirements
  • Oversee the design of the data architecture and the technical architecture for modern cloud data platforms, including data acquisition and integration, data modelling, transformation and quality processes, master data management, data warehousing and data marts, data lakehouse, data fabric and data mesh
  • Design conceptual, logical and/or physical data models and repositories, as well as data ontologies
  • Work closely with the clients and other architects to define metadata layers, technical Data strategies and optimal integration of innovative technologies within existing enterprise architecture landscape
  • Evaluate and select the tools and components necessary for optimal data management (data acquisition, data storage, data quality, data governance, data visualization and advanced analytics)
  • Take responsibility for client deliverables
  • Support the clients in accessing accurate and understandable data
  • Take an active role in coaching and developing junior consultants in the team
  • Support in business development

Skills and attributes for success

  • You are passionate about Data & Analytics, and you want to continue to develop your expertise in this domain
  • You are fluent in Dutch and/or French, proficient business English
  • You have a proven track record and at least 5-10 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: data strategy, Data architecture, (modern) data platform architecture, data modelling, data governance, Business Intelligence, Big Data, reporting & data warehousing, AI and Machine Learning
  • Extensive Data Modeling Expertise: Proven ability to design and implement complex data models that support business requirements and enhance data accessibility
  • In-Depth Knowledge of Database Technologies: Strong experience with various database systems (both SQL and NoSQL), including relational databases, data warehouses, and big data technologies
  • Cloud Architecture Proficiency: Expertise in cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, databricks, snowflake) and their data services, enabling the design of scalable and cost-effective data solutions
  • Data Governance and Compliance: Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality standards, and compliance regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) to ensure data integrity and security
  • Integration and ETL/ELT Skills: Experience with data integration tools and ETL/ELT processes, ensuring seamless data flow between systems and applications
  • You have good understanding of the different data architecture patterns: Data Fabric, Data Mesh, Data Warehouse, Data Marts, data modelling, ontologies & knowledge graphs, MicroServices
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex data requirements and develop innovative solutions to meet business needs
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Experience leading data architecture initiatives and mentoring junior team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams
  • Strategic Vision and Business Acumen: Ability to align data architecture strategies with business goals, demonstrating a deep understanding of industry trends and their impact on data management
  • You have a keen interest to learn more about the Financial Services market in Belgium and beyond
  • You make yourself regularly aware of latest Data & Analytics trends and solutions
  • You have Master’s Degree in Economics, (Business) Engineering, Sciences, IT, Computer Sciences, Statistics or equivalent
  • You have experience with lean/agile software development
