About the job
Are you a hard-working, enthusiastic teacher with a passion for SEND and enabling SEND pupils to achieve their full potential? If so, Wembrook wants to hear from you!
Wembrook Primary School is a large, very popular, 3-form entry school situated in Nuneaton, with almost 700 pupils on roll. We have a strong reputation within the local community and are frequently praised for our inclusive approach and outstanding support for our SEND pupils. Our recent OFSTED report highlighted the quality of our SEND provision at our school, saying ‘Staff expertise is well developed so that pupils with SEND are supported effectively. This helps pupils with SEND to achieve well’.
We are proud of our commitment to create a welcoming and nurturing environment where every child can thrive. As part of this commitment, we have recently established our own internal Specialist Resource Provision called The Lily Pad, designed to provide tailored support and personalised learning for pupils with complex needs. This is a small class of 9 pupils, all with EHCPs and Communication and Interaction needs, predominantly from Years 1 and 2. There are four experienced and well-trained TAs who work within the Lily Pad.
We are looking to employ a dedicated teacher with experience of working with pupils with complex needs. Ideally, you will have worked within a specialist provision, such as a special school or resource provision attached to a mainstream school. However, candidates with other relevant SEND experience will be considered. This is a full-time position, however we are open to considering part-time arrangements for the right applicant.
The appointed teacher would predominantly work in the Lily Pad provision, using pupil EHCPs to plan creative and engaging learning activities for our children. They will also plan for, and guide, the TAs to support the pupils. In addition, there will be opportunities to work outside the Lily Pad classroom, delivering interventions for SEND pupils across our school.
Key Requirements
Wembrook Primary is looking for someone to join the school who:
- Has a strong understanding of how children with SEND learn and develop
- Ability to use EHCPs to plan individualised and group learning opportunities
- Is familiar with the SEND Code of Practice and the Assess, Plan, Do process
- Skilled in adapting activities to meet the diverse needs and learning levels of our pupils
- Creativity in lesson planning and delivering engaging learning experiences
- Appropriate ICT skills to support teaching and learning
- Has strong inter-personal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents
- Is a team player who can guide and lead other staff members effectively
- Is able to show initiative and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to participate in the wider life of the school
- A commitment to contribute to the school’s statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
An Enhanced DBS check with Barred List check is mandatory for this role.
Our school is pivotal to our community. Our motto of “Believe and Achieve” is central to our ethos and the way the school is run. We are looking for someone who shares the same aspirations for all pupils.
The position has a January 2026 start date, although this could be later if circumstances dictate.
