Seeking an experienced, student-centered, and pedagogically innovative chemistry teacher to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill our mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.”
ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and teach four sections of science, including Chemistry or Environmental Chemistry, and possibly Biology, using the most up-to-date pedagogical and laboratory techniques.
- Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
- Learn and apply the principles of Design in the classroom, during coaching, advising, and within the residential program.
- Teach using current pedagogical practices, including Universal Design for Learning, backward planning ( Understanding by Design) , and project-based learning, to equip students with the Future Ready Skills they need for college and beyond.
- Advise a small cohort of students.
- Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends.
- Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices.
- Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the ongoing collaborative effort to innovate and improve our curriculum.
- Participate in committee work as requested by school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental chemistry, biology, science education, or a closely related field; a graduate degree in chemistry or science education is preferred.
- Three or more years of teaching high school chemistry or biology.
- Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
- Familiarity with Mac OS, tablet technology, Microsoft 365, Google, and other science education-enhancing products is preferred.
- Experience in a range of sports – coaching experience preferred.
- Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
- Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people.
