A leading international organisation is seeking a Senior Public Policy Specialist to join its regional team based in the UAE. The organisation works globally to promote integrity, transparency, and responsible practices across the value chain. With offices in major global markets, the Middle East and Africa hub plays a critical role in advancing policy dialogue and regional initiatives.
 

Role Overview

The Senior Public Policy Specialist will be responsible for supporting and advancing the organisation's public policy agenda across the Middle East and Africa. The role focuses on developing and implementing policy initiatives related to responsible sourcing, financial crime compliance, and market integrity, while also engaging with government agencies, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
 
This position offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful policy development that supports a transparent, sustainable, and well-regulated market environment. The role involves approximately 50% focus on regional policy initiatives and 50% on projects related to artisanal and small-scale mining (ASGM).
 

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research, policy analysis, and prepare briefing papers on key regulatory and market developments.
  • Support the design and implementation of regional policy strategies and stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Represent the organisation in meetings with government bodies, regulatory institutions, and industry associations.
  • Monitor and respond to global and regional policy issues affecting the commodities sector, including AML, trade regulation, and responsible sourcing.
  • Draft policy submissions, position papers, and public statements.
  • Support the planning and execution of stakeholder events, roundtables, and capacity-building programmes.
  • Develop and manage relationships with public and private sector partners across the region.
  • Contribute to cross-regional projects and collaborate with global policy colleagues.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, international relations, public policy, or a related discipline (essential).
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field preferred.
  • Professional certification in compliance, AML, or governance (desirable).
  • 5-8 years of professional experience, including at least 2-3 years in a public policy, government affairs, or regulatory role.
  • Experience in policy development within sectors such as finance, trade, natural resources, or sustainability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and persuasive policy materials.
  • Familiarity with Middle East and African governance structures and policymaking processes.
  • Experience engaging with international institutions (e.g., UN agencies, regional development banks) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of financial crime regulation, AML, or responsible sourcing is desirable.
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in Arabic, French, or another regional language is an asset.
