Description

We invite applications for an Edson Initiative Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center (NDRC) at Arizona State University. The NDRC is part of the world-renowned Biodesign Institute, and the fellowship will be based in the laboratory of Dr. Henry Tseng. Guided by the founding director, Dr. Jeffrey Kordower, the mission of the Edson Initiative and the NDRC is to support research and scholars dedicated to advancing discoveries and solutions that improve the quality of life for people affected by neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD).

The successful candidate will join the Tseng laboratory, which investigates early molecular events triggered by normal aging and age-related risk factors that contribute to AD and PD. The lab also works to develop novel therapeutic strategies aimed at reversing or slowing disease progression. Research approaches in the Tseng lab include in vitro cell models, wild-type and transgenic rodent models, as well as nonhuman primate and human patient tissues.

Please contact Dr. Tseng with any questions. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Essential Duties

  • Culture of cell lines, primary mouse neurons, and hiPSCs.
  • Microscopy, confocal imaging, and cellular/molecular biology techniques.
  • Rodent handling, drug delivery and tissue collection.
  • Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Data analysis, manuscript preparation, and oral presentations.
  • Writing grant proposals to submit to the National Institute of Health and other organizations (e.g. The Alzheimer's Association).
  • Actively participating in journal clubs, lab meetings, and international conferences.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. (within the past four years) in neurobiology, cellular/molecular biology or a closely related discipline.

Desired Qualifications

  • Must be highly motivated and have prior experience in neurobiology and neuroanatomy, with a strong focus in Neurodegenerative Diseases.
  • Must have a strong background in wet lab techniques such as molecular cloning, immunohistochemistry, immunoblots, tissue homogenization, and qPCR.
  • Motivated to learn skills that implement a multidisciplinary approach, from animal to molecular levels of study.
  • Must be a team player, as collaborations are a key driver to produce impactful research at NDRC.
