About the job

Application Deadline: 2025/03/31 11:59PM

The Mathematics Department at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) invites you to apply for postdoctoral researcher positions, for appointments to begin during the 2025/2026 academic year.

You should hold a PhD or equivalent degree, or expect to receive one before September 1, 2025. Typically, the position must be started within five years of obtaining your PhD. If your PhD was obtained before 2022, we invite you to describe your career trajectory, e.g. interruptions or alternative career paths, in your cover letter.

Offers are made by individual faculty members who will be funding the positions. You should therefore contact potential supervisors after submitting an application. If appointed, your precise duties will be agreed with your supervisor, but normally include research collaboration with researchers at UBC, and some teaching duties. Typically, appointments are for two to three years and start around September 1, 2025.

The total salary for this position is normally in the range of C$56,000 to C$70,000 plus benefits.

We take our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) seriously, and we strive to offer a productive and inclusive space to train junior researchers. We encourage applications from people from historically underrepresented groups in the mathematical sciences, particularly from women and non-binary persons, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, members of visible minority/racialized groups, and members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. In your cover letter, we invite you to describe your personal or professional experience with the interactions between EDI and mathematics.

Applications should be submitted on-line using

https://www.mathjobs.org

You should submit a cover letter, a CV (including a list of all publications), statements of research and teaching interests, and arrange for three or more letters of recommendation to be sent, one of which should address teaching ability. Your cover letter should give the names of up to three UBC faculty members whose research interests are closest to yours. Questions about the application procedure should be addressed to the Executive Coordinator at exec-coord(at)math.ubc.ca or to a faculty member in your research area.

We will make every effort to accommodate candidates with special needs (physical, medical, family responsibilities, etc.). To confidentially accommodate your special needs, please contact the Executive Coordinator at exec-coord(at)math.ubc.ca.

Screening of applications will commence on November 15, 2024. Applications received after this date will be considered as long as positions remain available.

We respectfully acknowledge that the UBC Vancouver-Point Grey academic campus is located on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), and UBC operations in Vancouver more generally are also on the territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh).
