About the job
The purpose of this position is to assist the HVAC/ Plumbing/Carpentry/Electrical trades in the maintenance & repair of campus facilities specific to the trade they are working in.
Duties will vary depending on specialty :
HVAC/Plumbing
- Assist HVAC techs in maintenance and repairs of campus wide refrigeration and air handler systems
- Assist in repairs of steam and water distribution across campus
- Service fire pumps in campus buildings
- Assist other trades in shops including plumbing , carpentry and electrical
- Log hours and a description of work done and materials used in performing work orders.
- Regularly scheduled on call duty required.
Carpentry
- Perform work orders and inspect buildings for problems
- Assist carpenters in construction projects
- Perform monthly PM's on exit lights and inspection of fire extinguishers
- Assist other trades in shops including Plumbing/HVAC/Electrical/Paint
- Log hours and a description of work done and materials used in performing work orders
- Regularly scheduled on call duty required
Requirements :
- High School diploma or GED is required along with a valid NC driver's license.
- Ability to work independently and safely without supervision is essential.
- Strong communication skills and ability to judge and prioritize work and manage a variety of service calls.
- Have demonstrated ability to take accountability and direct activity of the team.
- Work will require working in awkward or cramped areas work and both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
- After hours duty is required on a rotating schedule to handle trouble calls.
- While on duty week, working hours will be 1:00pm to 9:00 pm Monday -Friday.
- Position is classified as essential personnel during inclement weather and school closings.
Preferred :
Preferred qualifications include entry level Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry and HVAC skills
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (May vary depending on specialty):
HVAC/Plumbing - Knowledge of volt meters and refrigerant gauges
Carpentry -This position requires assisting in the maintenance & repair of campus buildings, college housing and plant campus buildings, college housing and plant equipment.
