How You Will Make an Impact
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will provide basic healthcare support to students under the supervision/direction of the Regional Director of Student Services and in coordination with the school nurse. The LVN will assist with and administer first aid for minor injuries, perform a various clerical duties related to student health care and health records, and support health education initiatives. This role contributes to promoting the well-being, academic achievement, and holistic development of the students and school personnel. This position reports to the Regional Director of Student Services or their designee.

- Provide first aid and emergency care for injuries and acute illnesses.
- Assist in managing student health condition such as asthma, diabetes, and severe allergies.
- Administer medications to students with proper authorization, as prescribed by physician, following school policies and parental consent.
- Monitor students for signs of illness or injury and take appropriate action.
- Maintain accurate medication records and follow school medication protocols.
- Support students with individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans (ECPs).
- Assist in assessing and monitoring the health and development status of students; provide case management support, referral, and follow-up for health conditions and/or medical issues.
- Assist in conducting state-mandated screenings under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including vision, hearing, and scoliosis; assist with audits of immunization, and physical exams.
- Maintain emergency supplies and equipment.
- Act as a point of contact for parents, teachers, and staff regarding student health concerns.
- Attend and participate in meetings and trainings as required (team, staff, SST, 504 Plan, and IEP meetings).
- Prepare and submit required California Department of Health Services reports on student health data (e.g., medication logs, and immunization compliance.
- Participate in health-related audits and reviews.
- Assist in implementing actions related to communicable disease management, including immunization support, as directed by health authorities.
- Document student health information in the electronic database and support data collection/reporting efforts.
- Perform administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned, which may be changed or modified from time to time.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic nursing procedures: vital signs, wound care, medication administration, clinical skills, and use of technology (BP machines, thermometers, etc.)
- Knowledge and understanding of school health regulations and FERPA/HIPAA compliance.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology, equipment, and techniques.
- Understanding of medication effects and administration procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff.
- Compassionate and able to work effectively with children and adolescents.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple levels of personnel.
- Ability to work with students with special needs.
- Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Demonstrate autonomy, reliability, and strong committed to providing excellent customer service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma is required.
- Completion of an accredited Vocational Nursing Program is required.
- Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) License is required.
- Current Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid Certification is required.
- Obtain an Audiometry Certificate within 1 year from date of hire is required.
- Intermediate in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other technology applications
- Ability to travel in the performance of the job.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolong periods, prepare, or inspect documents and operate office equipment.
- Hearing: Ability to hear average or typical conversations and receiving ordinary information.
- Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communication, in person or remote, to speak with level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer.
- Mental Demands: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work. Understand how to manage stress. medium workflow management, medium project coordination, and high people engagement.
- Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together, use hands to grasp, and manipulate small objects; twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.
- Strength: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. Prolonged period sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Work in a low to moderate noise environment with frequent deadline pressures.
