Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an IT Software Engineer 4. The work will be done onsite at our client’s facility in Chicago, IL (540 W Madison Street). This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in-office and may transition to a full onsite schedule in the future. This is a long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is $93.20/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay). Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to design, develop, and maintain advanced automation frameworks and testing solutions for enterprise applications. This role focuses on developing test automation frameworks in Java, BDD tools (Cucumber/JBehave), and API testing with JMeter and Karate. The engineer will lead test strategy, mentor team members, and support continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) efforts within an Agile environment. Key Responsibilities • Develop and extend test automation frameworks using Java and JavaScript for CI/CD environments. • Design and maintain API test automation frameworks to support scripting, execution, and results analysis. • Create and execute automated test scripts using tools such as JMeter, Karate, and Cucumber. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve defects, enhance functionality, and improve system performance. • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to test engineers on automation best practices. • Perform exploratory and manual testing as necessary and document results according to quality standards. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. • 8–10 years of experience in software testing and automation engineering. • Strong hands-on experience in Java (3–5 years), Cucumber, and BDD frameworks (3–5 years). • Proficiency in testing REST APIs, developing test scripts, and writing SQL queries. • Experience with JMeter for performance testing and full-stack integration validation. • Strong understanding of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Git. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Python, AWS Cloud technologies, and Apigee or other API gateways. • Familiarity with DevOps practices, TDD, and Agile/Lean methodologies. • Experience with microservices architectures and load/performance testing. • Strong documentation and communication skills.
