Seeking an experienced, student-centered, and pedagogically innovative history teacher to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill our mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.”
ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and teach four sections of history at both regular and honors levels. Courses could include World History, US History, or History Electives.
- Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
- Open to learning and utilizing the principles of Design within the classroom, coaching, advising, and within the residential program.
- Teach using current pedagogical practices, including Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning ( Understanding by Design) , and project-based learning, to equip students with the Future-Ready Skills they need for college and beyond.
- Coach sports and/or lead afternoon activities.
- Advise a small cohort of students.
- Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends.
- Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices.
- Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve our curriculum and participate in committee work as requested by school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in history, psychology, economics, education, or a closely related field; a graduate degree in any of those is preferred
- 1-5 years (or more) of teaching at the high school level
- Current pedagogical practices which may include experience with Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning (Understanding by Design), mind-brain science, and project-based learning
- Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department
- Facility with educational LMS portals, Mac OS, Mircrosoft365, Google apps, and other history education-enhancing products
- Experience in a range of sports – coaching or playing experience preferred
- Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues
- Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly
- Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people
