THE ROLE

We're looking for the first Generative AI Engineer to help Unit grow into the GenAI era across all fronts.

In this role, you will lead hands-on initiatives that apply large language models (LLMs) to real production systems, from backend automation to internal tools to user-facing features. You'll drive full-lifecycle projects, from experimentation and benchmarking to building, deploying, and maintaining GenAI infrastructure at scale. Just as importantly, you'll help seed and spread this knowledge across our engineering and product teams. This role blends strategic technical leadership with hands-on development, making it ideal for someone excited to both deliver features today and shape where we go tomorrow.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identify opportunities for AI integration across the organization, build a backlog, and define KPI's to measure its success.

• Design, implement, and scale production-ready GenAI systems that power real features and business operations.

• Own the infrastructure: deploy and operate AI systems on AWS (and/or other providers where appropriate), ensuring reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to identify opportunities for GenAI = across Unit's platform and processes, understand team-specific domains, and embed agents directly into existing business workflows.

• Build frameworks and internal tooling that empower other teams to adopt GenAI safely and efficiently.

• Establish best practices around evaluation, model iteration, and observability.

• Serve as a multiplier: educate and support peers in understanding and using GenAI capabilities within their domains.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Eng leadership experience (former Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, VP Eng).

• Strong backend development experience with modern engineering practices and production infrastructure.

• Experience in the full GenAI lifecycle: model selection, benchmarking, optimization, deployment, and monitoring.

• Familiarity with latest LLMs concepts such as (MCPs N8N, RAG)

• Demonstrate a deep curiosity and drive to infuse AI-first thinking into every layer of product and engineering.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working across teams to deliver and evangelize solutions.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms.
