Position Information:
Under the direction of the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) for Intercollegiate Athletics, the Financial and Budget Analyst independently performs complex financial, budgetary, and compliance analysis for the Athletics Department. The Analyst applies advanced problem-solving skills to support long-range financial planning, evaluate fiscal performance, and recommend process improvements, contributing to the department's administrative, financial, and compliance operations. The position manages budget planning and financial reporting for 17 NCAA Division I programs, including preparation of required NCAA, Big West Conference (BWC), and governmental reports (e.g., DOE/EADA). Core duties include year-end fiscal closing, general ledger reconciliations, and cost/budget transfer reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution of discrepancies. The Analyst also serves as a key resource for the annual NCAA Agreed-Upon Procedures (AUP) audit and other financial compliance reviews. In addition, the Analyst prepares financial materials, dashboards, and reports for committee meetings and coordinates with the CFAO and Athletics leadership.
The full salary range for the Director of Business Operations is $75,900 - $137,300 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

- Performs regular and ad hoc complex budget/resource analysis, including data retrieval from campus systems, validation, multi-year forecasting, and trend analysis. Prepares reports for Athletics and Student Affairs leadership, coaches, and staff. Provides advice on availability and use of funds and offers recommendations to resolve budgetary issues.
- Provides analytical support for complex budget, financial, and resource projects, including developing recommendations to streamline and improve business and financial processes in Athletics in consultation with the CFAO.
- Ensures compliance with applicable internal controls (SOPs), UC policies and procedures, agency-specific requirements, NCAA financial policies, and GAAP standards to safeguard University resources. Responds to internal and external auditor requests for documentation. Supports administration of student-athlete scholarship fund administration to ensure compliance with fund restrictions.
- The scope and support to business processes and workflow are managed through Smartsheet (an Intelligent Work Management Platform).
- Reviews and prepares financial transactions and budget status reports based on NCAA AUP and GAAP principles. Serves as control unit previewer for non-exceptional Concur transactions. Prepares monthly budget reports (operational, discretionary, foundation including revenue share funds, game guarantees, etc.) for coaches and staff, and assists with budget monitoring and adjustments in collaboration with the CFAO.
- Documents procedures for financial activities and maintains the monthly Ledger Reconciliation & Storage System (LRSS). Supports fiscal closing by reconciling accounts, ensuring budget adjustments are accurate, and confirming income and expenses are properly recorded in Profit and Loss and pro-forma formats.
