Environmental Analyst
About the job
• Review scientific studies, reports, and other sources to gather relevant environmental data; contact state and federal agencies to request access to datasets.
• Accurately enter data into study databases in a well-documented, detailed, and timely manner, ensuring high standards of data integrity.
• Conduct data analysis using statistical and programming tools (e.g., Python, R) to process datasets, generate insights, and create visualizations.
• Assist scientists in performing quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) checks to ensure database accuracy and reliability.
• Conduct background research to inform technical reports, manuscripts, and policy briefs, synthesizing findings for diverse audiences.
• Leverage cloud-based platforms and programming tools to support data processing, analysis, and visualization tasks.
• Work closely with multiple team members, communicate findings clearly, and seek assistance when needed to meet project objectives.
• Respond quickly to changing research needs and priorities, flexibly pivoting across diverse projects and deliverables in a dynamic science-policy landscape.
Requirements
- Master's degree with 1+ year of relevant experience, or Bachelor's with equivalent experience in environmental science, environmental health, engineering, data science, computer science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working in a research setting (e.g., academic, professional, or internship experience) and compiling, cleaning, and analyzing scientific datasets.
- Proficiency in programming tools such as Python, R, or equivalent for data processing, statistical analysis, or visualization.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy in database management and analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with colleagues, engaging with external stakeholders (e.g., public agencies, partners), and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
- Scientific integrity and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional work ethic, with a proactive and curious approach to solving challenges.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and independently as needed.
- A sense of humor and enthusiasm for impactful, collaborative work.
