About the job

Job Description

About the Role

Join Hinge Health to lead the engineering team behind our accounts platform—the identity, accounts, authentication, and permissions systems that power every member, clinician, client, and internal experience across web, mobile, and APIs. You’ll own a critical platform with stringent reliability, security, and privacy requirements, partnering closely with Product, Design, Security, Data, and Operations to deliver seamless, compliant access at scale.

You’ll manage and grow a team of 6+ engineers, guide the technical vision and roadmap, and stay close to the code through reviews and occasional contributions (~15%). We practice continuous delivery and a DevOps culture with engineers participating in an on-call rotation and owning what we ship. Our production systems rely on Golang, gRPC, AWS, Postgres, Redis, and Temporal. Our workflow is trunk-based CI/CD, and our security/compliance posture is at the highest standards of healthcare, including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA.

What You'll Accomplish

  • Drive the strategy, architecture, and roadmap for accounts: identity models, authentication, authorization, session and device management, account recovery, delegated administration, and audit trails.

  • Deliver simple, reliable, secure account experiences across web, mobile, and APIs with clear SLOs for availability, latency, and correctness.

  • Integrate and/or build IAM capabilities using industry protocols (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML) and standards (e.g., SCIM for provisioning) where appropriate.

  • Raise the engineering bar via design reviews, code reviews, technical roadmaps, threat modeling, post-incident reviews, and high-quality documentation.

  • Establish high-signal metrics and feedback loops for reliability, performance, and customer outcomes; use observability to drive continuous improvement.

  • Apply AI and automation for provisioning, anomaly detection, access reviews, and reliability tooling.

  • Hire, mentor, and grow engineers toward senior/staff levels; foster an inclusive, high-performance culture and sustainable on-call practices.

  • Manage capacity, technical debt, and operational excellence; make clear build-vs-buy decisions for identity components and vendors.

Hinge Health Hybrid Model

We believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days per week, for the full 8 hours of a typical business day. The San Francisco office has a dog-friendly workplace program.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field

  • 8+ years of experience in the technology industry, with a focus on SaaS products and large-scale, complex systems

  • 2+ years managing software engineers (5+), including hiring and performance management

  • 4+ years building and operating secure, highly available backend systems with modern languages (e.g., Go, Java, TypeScript/Node, Python)

  • Experience building distributed systems and cloud-based technologies (e.g., gRPC, Protobuf, Temporal, Docker/Kubernetes, and AWS)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong grasp of relational data modeling and transactional integrity (Postgres or similar)

  • Proven delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder roadmaps and operational excellence in production

  • Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, CCPA)

  • Experience with AI technologies for software design and coding assistance

  • Background in healthcare, payments, or other regulated technology industries

Compensation

This position will have an annual salary, plus equity and benefits. Please note the annual salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. The annual salary range for this position is $220,000 - $330,000.
