Cube is on a mission to help every company hit their numbers.

The world has evolved, but business planning has not. Most Finance teams still manage their planning and analysis in spreadsheets, yet the ones who replace them end up going back over 80% of the time. Cube is a cloud-based FP&A platform that helps companies hit their numbers without sacrificing their spreadsheets.

Cube is backed by top-tier investors such as Battery Ventures and Mayfield. Together, we’re building a culture that challenges and celebrates everyone with a path to growth. We’re guided by our company values: act with urgency, keep it simple, build with joy, obsess over the details, own the outcome, raise the bar, champion our customers, and win together. As we enter our next phase of growth, we believe having the right Cubers on our team will be the reason we win.

Note: This position requires working onsite at our New York office Tuesday through Thursday.

About the Role

At Cube, we’re building the next generation of B2B SaaS infrastructure. We run a modern stack (Python/Django backend, React frontend, AWS infrastructure) and are committed to delivering high-quality, secure, and scalable products. As we grow we’re investing in leadership roles to drive engineering excellence.

What You’ll Do

As our Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a team of ~5 engineers. You’ll split your time between hands-on backend work and managerial responsibilities. You’ll be instrumental in shaping our architecture, driving operational excellence, maintaining audit readiness, and scaling the team with high standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of engineers, fostering growth, collaboration, and accountability

  • Contribute regularly to the backend codebase (Python/Django) — design, code, review, and optimize

  • Read and understand frontend (React) code to provide architectural feedback and ensure alignment

  • Take increasing responsibility for our compliance initiatives, particularly SOC 2 Type II

    • Help define, document, and enforce compliance controls, policies, and procedures

  • Drive backend architecture, reliability, deployment, monitoring, and security improvements

  • Ensure the team delivers on sprint commitments with high quality

  • Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams on cross-cutting initiatives

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone who has been in the trenches as a backend engineer and is excited to lead a growing team while also taking on compliance responsibilities. You’ll need both technical credibility and the ability to drive process and people outcomes.

Technical & Domain Skills

  • Strong experience in Python and Django in production environments

  • Comfortable building, reviewing, and optimizing backend systems (APIs, database, caching, async jobs)

  • Familiarity with React — able to understand and critique frontend architecture and code

  • Solid AWS experience (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, Lambda, etc.), and experience with CI/CD, monitoring, and logging

  • Experience or interest in compliance and security frameworks, particularly SOC 2 Type II

  • Understanding of secure coding practices, access controls, vendor audits, logging, and incident response

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Excellent communicator who can bridge engineering, leadership, and cross-functional partners

  • Evidence of building strong team culture, managing conflict, and mentoring engineers

  • Comfortable delegating and scaling processes over time

  • High ownership and accountability — you take responsibility end-to-end

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • Your team consistently meets sprint goals with high quality and healthy pace

  • You own a significant share of backend architecture work and positively impact our technical trajectory

  • You’ve started running SOC 2 evidence cycles and are recognized as the go-to person for compliance questions

  • Engineers on your team feel supported and are making measurable growth

The annual base salary for this role ranges from $190,000 to $210,000 USD.

The expectations above are meant to represent the ideal candidate, but if you don’t meet all of them and think you’d be a great fit for this role, please apply. This position is open to candidates who are authorized to work in the United States. Immigration sponsorship is not available at this time.

Full-Time Employee Benefits

  • Our flexible paid vacation and sick/mental health time guidelines help you get the time and space you need.

  • We have a number of "Focus Fridays" built in throughout the year when everyone at Cube can use the day to catch up on a project, take a customer call/demo, or recharge at home or in your community.

  • We offer stock options to all full-time employees of Cube, as we want you to be connected to the success of the company.

  • We provide 100% covered employee medical, dental, and vision insurance options, including FSA/HSA options plus free memberships to OneMedical, Teladoc, and Talkspace.

  • We give up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caregivers.

  • We offer each Cuber a quarterly learning budget to spend on books, classes, or events that support your development

  • You’ll be joining an experienced team of tech startup leaders who are eager to work with you and provide support and mentorship!

  • You’ll work for a company that our customers are truly excited about!
