Director of Technology Reports to: Head of SchoolStatus: Full-time, 12-month, exempt position   Gillispie School is an independent, coeducational day school located in downtown La Jolla, enrolling students from age two through Grade Six. This full-time position enjoys a year-round schedule of duties.  The successful candidate will be a team player who enjoys working with various constituent groups in advancing the mission and goals of Gillispie. The Director of Technology is responsible for the strategic vision, implementation, and management of all school technology systems and instructional technology programs. This role blends leadership, infrastructure oversight, security, cybersecurity, and hands-on support with curriculum development and faculty training. DUTIES Technology Strategy & Leadership Partner with school leadership to align technology vision with strategic goals. Monitor emerging technologies and evaluate tech initiatives for continuous improvement. Participate in leadership and board meetings, contributing technology-related insights. Member of the school security team. Develop and manage the technology budget. Information Systems Oversee procurement, implementation, and maintenance of hardware, software, and technology-related services. Oversee the maintenance and functionality of the school’s technology infrastructure for students, faculty, and staff. Manage the IT specialist to ensure the continual functionality of the school’s technology infrastructure. Maintain asset inventory database Manage vendors and supervise summer interns for device and classroom tech setup. Ensure the performance and security of networks, servers, communications, and technology-related systems. Establish AI and internet usage policies and content filtering protocols. Develop and enforce cybersecurity standards, conduct risk assessments, and lead incident response planning. Collaborate with leadership to ensure legal and insurance compliance. Provide cybersecurity and AI safety training for faculty, staff, and students.   Technology Support ●  Manage the maintenance of technology systems, including servers, telecommunications, switches, intercoms, security systems (cameras & software), software, and networks. Oversee helpdesk operations in collaboration with the IT Specialist. ●  Provide direct support and training to faculty, staff, and students. Instructional Technology Design and teach a K–6 digital literacy curriculum, integrating ISTE standards. Support students with tech fluency, digital citizenship, and educational tools. Collaborate with faculty on project-based and cross-disciplinary tech integration. Lead parent workshops on digital safety and responsible tech use. Develop and deliver employee professional development on instructional technologies. Provide direct support, including in-class coaching and training to faculty, staff, and students. Coordinate an annual faculty showcase of innovative classroom projects. Provide A/V and tech support for school-wide events, performances, and meetings. Manage A/V equipment and oversee the recording/editing of school productions. Stay current with trends and innovations in educational technology. Participate in ongoing training and school activities, including occasional supervision duties and events outside school hours. QUALIFICATIONS & QUALITIES Professional Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in IT, computer science, educational technology, or related field (Master’s highly desired). 5 years of leadership in technology management, ideally in education or nonprofit settings. 3–5 years of teaching experience, preferably in elementary education, and a history of successfully leveraging technology to improve instruction and learning outcomes. Experience planning and leading workshops, training, projects, and new initiatives related to technology in alignment with strategic objectives. Proven ability to manage projects, lead teams, and implement instructional technology. Expertise in fostering collaboration, managing change, and setting strategic goals in the rapidly evolving technology environment Leadership & Personal Qualities: ●  Strategic thinker with strong execution and troubleshooting abilities. ●  Excellent communicator and consensus builder. ●  Collaborative, empathetic, and innovative leader. ●  Comfortable managing both infrastructure and instructional tech initiatives.   Work Environment This job operates in a professional school environment. Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. At times may also need to climb or balance.   Can lift and move up to 20 pounds.  Able to work occasionally during off-peak hours. Salary Range The salary and benefits are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated salary range is $100,000 to $115,000 per year.  Benefits include medical/dental/vision/403b retirement plan, professional growth support, vacation, personal time, and paid holidays.
