UNCSA enrolls more than 1,300 students across its five arts schools, which include the schools of Dance, Design & Production, Drama, Filmmaking, and Music, as well as the undergraduate Division of Liberal Arts and the High School Academic Program.

UNCSA is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. With its vibrant downtown and long support of the arts, the city's numerous galleries, performing arts groups, theaters and collections appeal to arts lovers worldwide.



Primary Description of Work
The Office of Learning Resources is committed to providing student accommodations that ensure equal access to learning and equal opportunity for academic success. The office also provides individual assistance and group opportunities for students to develop essential academic skills. The Director of Learning Resources serves in the Teaching and Learning Center of the Academic Affairs division, working alongside the Office of Career Development and Community Engagement, the Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, and the Writing Center.

Description of Responsibilities and Duties
The Director of Learning Resources role encompasses the following:
Manage the overall planning, development, and administration of the accommodations process for students with disabilities (50%)
  • Ensure the provision of eligible accommodations to all enrolled UNCSA students with disabilities in accordance with federal and state laws relating to disability compliance including Sections 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA 1990; ADAA 2010).
  • Stay current with legal/policy changes affecting access and disability services.
  • Read and interpret medical and psychoeducational documentation related to accommodations; prior experience reviewing, evaluating, and determining academic accommodations for college students with disabilities strongly preferred.
  • Work with the High School Academic Program to schedule and conduct 504 conferences with high school parents, students, instructors, and administrators according to rules and regulations of ADA, 504, and other federal and state regulations on serving students with disabilities.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise student assistants to provide transcription, note taking and other services to students with disabilities.
  • Provide 1:1 academic support to students with disabilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This includes development of self-advocacy and coaching specific to issues related to disability.
  • Design and implement innovative training, programs and services appropriate to the academic needs of students with disabilities.
  • Manage and oversee the general operations of University Testing Services as it applies to students with disabilities.
  • Manage, monitor, train, and provide necessary assistive technology and adaptive technology for test-taking and other accommodative use.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs to provide guidance on accommodations in the residential environment, including housing and ESA approvals.
Design and implement Learning Resources programming and support (10%)
  • Provide individual assistance and group workshops offering academic support in areas such as time management, organizational skills, study skills, test-taking strategies, and notetaking strategies.
  • Consult with faculty and staff concerning student needs and offer information on universal design for learning (UDL).
  • Attend classes and contribute learning resources expertise, upon faculty invitation.
Administrative management (20%)
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records while using data to inform continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and implement up-to-date departmental and university guidelines and procedures as they relate to students with disabilities.
  • Develop and manage program budgetary needs for campus disability-related services.
  • Prepare end-of-year reports concerning status of students with disabilities and campus trends, making recommendations to address the findings.
Consulting and campus training (10%)
  • Participate in the weekly Student of Concern/Case Management roundtable, collaborating on interventions, access planning, and coordinated student support responses.
  • Educate and inform students and parents regarding the accommodation process and support services for students with disabilities.
  • Represent the office on campus committees and at university events, including orientation programs, Preview Days, and faculty/staff workshops.
Academic Success Coaching (10%)
  • Serve as Academic Success Coach for the ASC program, an Academic Affairs student success support initiative.
  • Provide academic coaching/assessment to undergraduate students on probation within assigned caseload.
  • Monitor student engagement and academic success for all students within assigned caseload.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge base of academic skills, pedagogy, principles, and methodology.
  • Provide expertise (accessibility accommodations, learning support, counseling techniques) to the work of the ASC team.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience working in a high school or other special education environment.
  • Background in, or affinity for, the arts.
  • Knowledge of and experience with assistive/instructional technologies.
  • Experience identifying and resolving complex problems or issues that require detailed investigation, analysis and interpretation.
