About the job

Overview

The Director of Data Governance Engineer will be a member of the Data Analytics department reporting to the Vice President of Data Governance.  This role is focused on the technical implementation and operationalization of Data Governance practices. In this role you will work to ensure Amtrust Financial data assets are properly cataloged through practices which promote data classification, data discovery, data lineage, impact analysis and data quality.  In addition, this role is responsible for the implementation, design and management of Data Governance technology platforms inclusive of: Master Data Management and Data Quality. With minimum supervision, you will work closely with business and technical stakeholders in promoting a community of practice across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing Data Governance Policies: Translate high-level policies into Data Governance technical solutions (e.g., Data Classification
  • Ensuring Data Quality: Build and maintain frameworks for data quality monitoring, alerting, and remediation, ensuring data is accurate, consistent, and fit for purse. 
  • Managing Data Lineage, Data Classification and Metadata: Implement tools to track data lineage (where data comes from and how it's transformed), assign classification targets and manage  metadata (data about data) to improve understanding and traceability. 
  • Collaborating with Stakeholders: Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, software engineers and other key stakeholders (e.g., Audit, Risk, Compliance and Legal) to ensure data governance practices align with business needs and technical capabilities. 
  • Building and Maintaining Data Governance Tools: Lead in selecting, implementing and deploying tools for data cataloging, data quality monitoring, master data management and other aspects of data governance. 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years leading Data Governance solution implementations.
  • Minimum of 10+ years working within Information Technology
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
  • Proficiency in data modeling, data warehousing, and integration processes.
  • Experience with Data Integration, Data Science and Visualization technologies.
  • Experience with data quality tools and techniques.
  • Experience with master data management tools and techniques.
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, .NET).
  • Proficiency in developing with REST APIs.
  • Familiar with Cybersecurity, Compliance and Audit technologies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Strong communication, written and collaboration skills.
  • Familiar with data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Knowledge of agile and waterfall Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
