*Mid Cornwall* Purpose of the Role To deliver engaging and inspiring Design and Technology lessons that develop students’ creativity, problem-solving skills, and technical understanding. The teacher will plan and deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences that enable all learners to achieve their potential in areas such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, Textiles, and/or Digital Technologies. Key Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and deliver outstanding lessons in Design and Technology in line with curriculum requirements (KS3–KS5 as appropriate). Foster a stimulating learning environment that encourages innovation, experimentation, and independent thinking. Assess, record, and report on students’ progress, providing constructive feedback and guidance. Ensure that all teaching complies with relevant health and safety regulations and best practice in workshop/lab environments. Maintain resources, tools, and equipment, ensuring safe and effective use by students. Collaborate with colleagues to develop schemes of work, share best practice, and contribute to departmental improvement. Organise and support extracurricular or enrichment activities such as design clubs, competitions, and exhibitions. Stay up to date with developments in technology, materials, and educational pedagogy. Support whole-school initiatives, pastoral care, and contribute to a positive school culture. Qualifications and Experience Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. Degree in Design and Technology, Engineering, Product Design, or a related field. Proven experience of teaching D&T at secondary or post-16 level. Knowledge of current curriculum requirements and assessment frameworks. Desirable: Experience teaching specialisms such as CAD/CAM, 3D printing, electronics, or digital design. Experience supervising practical workshop environments. Familiarity with software such as Autodesk, SketchUp, SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar. Evidence of continuous professional development. Skills and Competencies Strong subject knowledge across design disciplines and technologies. Ability to engage and inspire learners of all abilities. Excellent classroom management and communication skills. Strong organisational and planning skills. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
