The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Brain Donation Coordinator in the Division of Aging & Dementia and in the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain at Columbia University Irving Medical Center will be working as part of several federally funded research projects which follow aging persons who intend to provide their brains to research at the time of death. The coordinator will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator of the study. The Coordinator will report to the respective PI and will be responsible for the recruitment and management of the "brain donation autopsy program" component of the Alzheimer's disease Research Center, which works in support of other brain aging research projects including but not limited to those focused on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis (MS).


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate autopsy participant enrollment efforts, direct contact with participants and families, and all brain donation procedures.
  • Serve as a backup to the clinical coordinator, including neuropsychological testing and supervision of responsibilities of the research assistants.
  • Responsible for data management and coordination of Research Center patient visits, maintenance of spreadsheets, organizing meetings, making phone calls to participants, efforts to retain participants and recruit new ones, community outreach efforts, and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Supervision of as well as direct participation in subject forms management, data entry, and data cleaning, in close coordination with other cores.
  • Other duties as assigned, including coordination and supervision of other projects under the direction of the PI as relates to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias.
  • The work will require an on-call responsibilities, which will include calls on nights and weekends. There is a general expectation for on-site work approximately 3-4 days/week.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.

  • English and Spanish fluency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work on different tasks at once and be highly organized.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, working on assigned timelines to meet study goals and objectives.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Strong self-motivation.
  • Strong general computing skills.
