About the job

FourKites is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Business Analyst to join our dynamic International Freight Visibility team. In this critical role, you will analyze complex business systems, define user needs, and bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams to deliver innovative ocean/air freight visibility and execution solutions. You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineering, and customers to gather requirements, document processes, and ensure that our solutions effectively address real-world ocean/air freight challenges.

This position requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a solid understanding of supply chain operations, particularly in ocean/air freight and logistics. You will need a hands-on approach to problem-solving, attention to detail, and proficiency with business analysis and product development tools. As this role serves our global customer base while being based in India, you will collaborate effectively across time zones with US-based teams and international customers.

What you'll be doing:

Requirements Gathering & Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of business processes, systems, and user needs related to ocean/air freight visibility, booking automation, customs clearance, and container tracking. Translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable specifications and user stories.

Stakeholder Engagement: Actively engage with customers, internal stakeholders, Product Managers, and Engineering teams to gather feedback, understand pain points, and identify opportunities for process improvements and feature enhancements. Build and maintain ongoing relationships to ensure alignment on requirements and priorities.

Documentation & Specification: Create comprehensive documentation including business requirement documents (BRDs), functional specifications, process flows, user journey maps, acceptance criteria, and system design specifications. Ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences.

Data Analysis & Insights: Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to ocean/air freight operations, system performance, and user behavior. Create visualizations, reports, and dashboards to communicate findings and support data-driven decision making. Identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for optimization.

Solution Design Support: Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to evaluate different solution approaches, assess feasibility, and recommend optimal implementations. Participate in design reviews and provide input on user experience, system functionality, and business process alignment.

Customer & User Research: Conduct user research sessions, interviews, and process walkthroughs with customers to deeply understand their ocean/air freight workflows, challenges, and needs. Translate these insights into actionable requirements and feature recommendations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work effectively with Product Management, Engineering, QA, Customer Success, and Sales teams across global time zones to ensure requirements are clearly understood and successfully delivered. Act as a liaison between business and technical teams.

Quality Assurance Support: Partner with QA teams to develop test cases, validate that implementations meet business requirements, and ensure solutions deliver the intended business value. Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) activities.

Process Improvement: Proactively identify inefficiencies in current processes and workflows, both internal and customer-facing. Propose and help implement improvements that enhance productivity, user experience, and business outcomes.

Tool Proficiency: Utilize business analysis and product development tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, SQL, Excel, Tableau/Power BI) to document requirements, track progress, analyze data, and communicate effectively across teams.

Who you are:

Required:

  • 3+ years of business analyst experience, with a strong focus on B2B SaaS products or logistics technology solutions
  • Proven ability to analyze complex business systems and define clear, comprehensive user needs and requirements
  • Strong domain knowledge in supply chain and logistics, with understanding of ocean/air freight operations, transportation management, or freight forwarding processes
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with ability to target communications appropriately for diverse audiences and explain information clearly
  • Demonstrated customer focus with experience gathering requirements directly from customers and building ongoing stakeholder relationships
  • Strong data analysis skills including data collection, data integrity management, basic data cleaning, and creation of visualizations for reports and presentations
  • Proficiency with business analysis tools and methodologies, requirements documentation, and agile frameworks
  • Action-oriented mindset with ability to see what needs to be done and do it without being told, with appropriate urgency
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to efficiently solve moderately complex problems, look beyond obvious solutions, and experiment with different approaches
  • Drive for results with ability to accept difficult projects, define tasks in terms of achievable outcomes, and persevere through setbacks
  • Based in India, with availability to collaborate effectively with US time zones and global offshore teams

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in ocean/air freight, freight forwarding, 3PL operations, or shipping industry
  • Experience working with logistics technology platforms, visibility solutions, or transportation management systems
  • Familiarity with ocean/air freight processes including booking, documentation, customs clearance, container tracking, carrier integrations, and freight audit
  • SQL proficiency and experience with data analysis tools (Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
  • Experience with API integrations, EDI transactions, or system integration projects
  • Certification in Business Analysis (CBAP, CCBA) or Agile methodologies (CSPO, CSM)
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
